BO Connectivity Options to Native HANA Models and BW on HANA Cubes

The following options are available to connect BO server to Native HANA and BW on HANA.

1. SAP BAPI

2. OLAP SAP BICS Client

3. OLAP SAP HANA Client

4. Relational DB Connection (JDBC / ODBC)

SAP BAPI:

Business Application Programming Interface (BAPI) is traditional method used to connect BO server (3.x systems) to BW BEx Queries.

This connection is used by Universe Design Tool (UDT) to access BW cubes.

BAPI connection created on BEx Query. So for each query, one BAPI connection need to be created.

OLAP SAP BICS Client

OLAP SAP BICS Client (Business Intelligence Consumer Service) connectivity is widely used to connect BO (4.x) Servers to BW Systems.

This Connection can be created via Information Design Tool (IDT) or BOE/BI Server console.

This Connection can be created with or without mentioning the Bex Query name.

So We can able to create reports on multiple BW cubes with one BICS connectivity.

From WebI, using this Connectivity We can create report directly on Bex Query.

No Universes are (Middle Layer) needed.

OLAP SAP HANA Client:

OLAP SAP HANA Client connectivity is widely used to connect BO (4.x) Servers to Native HANA Systems.

This Connection also can be created via Information Design Tool (IDT) or BOE/BI Server console.

This Connection can be created with or without mentioning the HANA Column view name.

So We can able to create reports on multiple HANA Models with one BICS OLAP HANA Connectivity

In this Connection all Analytic Views and Calculation Views will be treated as Cube.

This connectivity used by Design Studio, Lumira to create the reports.

Relational DB Connection (JDBC / ODBC) :

This is relational DB connectivity.

We could not access the Table from OLAP HANA connection.

Here We have access for HANA Table also along with Models.

This connectivity used by IDT for Universe Creation and used in BO Business Explorer Reporting tool.
