Oracle recently announced the plans to deprecate the Java browser plug-in in JDK 9 (GA date is March, 2017, http://openjdk.java.net/projects/jdk9/). This means that the plugin functionality will not be developed and maintained any more. The existing Java browser plug-in based functionality will continue to work for the time being.

Complete removal will come with a future Java release (the release date has not been announced yet) and it will affect all browsers and consequently, SAP application functionality.

Potentially affected Web applications technologies are:

Web Dynpro ABAP and Java, BSP, WEBCUIF. (SAP GUI for HTML developed an alternative solution already for Chrome; in process for Edge, IE and Firefox. The replacement will be completed plug-ins removal).

Affected Java based SAP browser plug-ins are:

JGantt, JNetwork, AcfExecute, AcfUpDownload and ACF based Interactive Forms by Adobe.

Please be aware of it for your own software development. The SAP teams are currently evaluating mitigation strategies.
