Are you a pilot or just interested in aviation or learning how to fly? SAP’s new Aviation and Pilots Association helps bring together SAP employees with a passion for conquering the skies both in their personal and professional lives.  I was lucky enough to grow up with pilots in my family and only learned after gaining my private pilots certificate that my Great Aunt was among the original air racers in the late 20’s and 30’s and knew Amelia Earhart and the legendary Pancho Barns. That was a big surprise!

What people may not realize is realize how accessible different venues of aviation can be. From the exploding community of done enthusiasts, to ultralight aircraft, to private pilots and the growing realm of IoT in aviation, there are many ways to get involved. And, in the SAP ecosystem, it is amazing how many aviation companies and aerospace leaders are SAP customers with a great group supporting them from SAP's Aerospace and Defense team who just participated in the Paris Airshow last year in 2015.

One of our association’s priorities is to use aviation as a gateway to inspire youth interest in STEM studies and technology.  Last year, our members supported the Hiller Aviation Museum Aero Design Challenge at the San Carlos airport where we helped teach kids about Design Thinking approaches in aviation. And this year, we’re expanding our involvement and will be working with High School students to work on this year’s hottest aviation topic – but it’s still a secret…

So if you’re in the Silicon Valley and would like to join a fun bunch of SAP employees to learn what aviation resources are here for you, and see how you can take flight for both fun and community let us know. And, this October, we welcome both our fellow SAP colleagues and our local customers or partners to join us in volunteering your support to the Aero Design Challenge at the Hiller Aviation Museum, so message me on SCN and let me know if you’d like to get involved!
