Use a Validation to avoid dummy Equity Group in JVA postings

JVA module is a common functionality for virtually any Upstream Oil&Gas company.

In this post I will share a simple tip on the JV Equity Group that helps to avoid a default value coming from corporate Company code data.  This should improve the transactional data quality and avoid issues during a month-end closing process.

In the Corporate data for the Company code the Equity Group is a mandatory field.

Please, see below the screen from GJZC transaction:

The equity group E99 is a dummy default value that should be avoided, because the real equity group must be inherited from the valid account assignment objects.

As an example you can see JVA data attributes coming from a WBS master record:

To setup a validation maintain a message class and the message text.

Next we can setup a simple validation step with respective error message in SE91:

Next you can proceed with the validation code itself:

It will ensure that Equity Group value is coming from a Cost object.
