We know that the main purpose of an information system is operational utility towards an agreed outcome.

For each added functionality to the information system, we must have a utility key indicator , whether quantitative ( how often the functionality is used in given period) , whether qualitative ( even if it is a functionality of low utilization , which its impact on business, in the agreed outcome ) .

The utility , since it has been mapped from the project implementation of the information system, it must have a very important role in clearly defining with transparent  of  life cycle from system even if, more flexible and updated, it will always be subject to the disruptive process of technological innovation.

Lowest value for utility , lowest for return on investment , greatly increasing the total cost of ownership of information system by maintaining functionalities that do not add value to the agreed outcome.

The maintenance becomes a weight, an anchor, against any mobility of information system and, therefore, of business.

By the way, what is the outlook in a scenario where the information system is essential ?

Understand and map the business activities that are related to the functionality more useful and make efforts to keep it at the technological forefront.

Otherwise , we cannot complain about our troubles and sleepless nights .
