SAP Labs India is SAP's second largest Research & Development center outside the headquarters in Walldorf, Germany. Founded in November 1998 with a small team, we have now grown into a massive location of approximately 6,500 employees spread across 3 main locations – Bangalore, Gurgaon and Pune. The Labs facility in India houses development teams which contribute to the key components of SAP’s Product strategy – S/4 HANA, Internet of Things (IoT), Analytics, Customer Engagement and Commerce (CEC), Success Factors, Ariba and Product Localization. We have experience and knowledge in multiple key industries in SAP’s portfolio – Public Sector, Telco, Apparel & Fashion, Utilities, Oil & Gas, Manufacturing, Transportation & Logistics to name a few. We account for close to 50 percent of SAP custom development and are a key center for the Services and Support organization worldwide. We embrace SAP’s culture of global diversity, innovation and are a hot spot for young talent.

Labs India has an Executive Briefing Center which is used to host customers during their product evaluation phase. In 2015, the EBC hosted over 35 customer briefings where developers participated in the pre-sales discussion and added valuable inputs through their technical expertise. SAP Labs India has also been identified as the hub for the APJ region for Customer Executive briefings.

Located within the Labs India facility in Bangalore is the SAP Co-Innovation Lab (COIL). Set up in 2009, COIL provides a platform for our ecosystem to develop innovative solutions on SAP Technologies and augments SAP’s strategic intent to co-innovate with partners and customers. COIL as a platform, has enabled several co-innovation projects that span across mobile applications, analytics, real time data platform and cloud among others. Recent examples of co-innovation applications built include Flood Real Time Monitoring and Fleet Analytics using SAP HANA which won the SAP HANA innovation award 2015.

India as a country has one of the largest startup base in the world after the United States, the United Kingdom, and China. It is also the youngest with more than 72 percent of its startups founded by entrepreneurs younger than 35. We have a young and energetic workforce with a strong technology acumen. We believe that this along with the nimbleness of startups can be a winning combination. We run a comprehensive startup focus program through which startups collaborate with our developers to accelerate their technology implementation. Many startups have benefitted through this program and have been able to create path breaking products.

People are the center focus of all functions within SAP Labs India. We have won several awards for our best-in-class diversity and employee policies. We believe a workplace of the future will be the one where policies will be formulated, driven and governed by employees themselves. We have started a new policy called “Care for Life” fund which is managed through voluntary contribution by SAP employees. The fund is governed independently by employee representatives. If a SAP employee meets an untimely death, then the fund extends financial support to the spouse and children of the family (on top of existing insurance). Great Place to Work has ranked SAP Labs as #5 among the best companies to work for in India, the Best Company in Supporting Women to remain at Work, The third best company in the Information Technology Industry and No 4 in employee participation and involvement in India.

SAP believes strongly that diversity fosters success and the India location is no exception. A couple of years back, a group of employees organized a small workshop with people in the ASD spectrum. The positive results led to hiring of 10 employees in the spectrum which eventually resulted in a global “Autism at work” program where SAP aims to employ 1% of its workforce with people affected by ASD by 2020. We currently have 13 individuals in the Autism spectrum employed with SAP Labs India [100 globally] who contribute in areas of development, testing and quality.

SAP Labs India is truly helping customers go digital. With run simple as our working principle, we help the world run better and improve people’s lives every day.
