October is observed as the month of service in SAP very year. On 21st October’2015, our team ‘CUSTDEV EXEC GGN SUPPORT CM ERP’ went to Asha Kiran Home in Dharuhera, around thirty kilometers from SAP Labs Office in Gurgaon. This home takes care of girls who either are orphans or have single parent where the parent is not able to take care of their daughter due to various reasons. This NGO provides home for girls up to the age of 18 years. They provide formal education up to class 12 and some vocational training according to their interest and help the girls to be financially independent.

We reached the NGO at 10 a.m. The main agenda was to spend quality time and interact with the girls. Some fun activities like musical chairs, quiz, singing and dancing competition, Tambola etc. were also planned.  After initial introduction, we started with musical chairs. We divided the girls in two groups according to their age. The girls thoroughly enjoyed the activity. They enthusiastically participated in the game. After that we had organized a dance competition where in the top three participants were given prizes. The girls eagerly participated and showcased their talent which was also a joy for us to watch. After this, we decided to play Tambola with the girls. They were so much engaged into Tambola that we had to postpone the planned lunch by half an hour. After the lunch, we had poetry recitation and a small quiz where the winners were distributed paints, colors, paintbrushes and chocolates. In the end, we had prize distribution for the winners of dance and other competitions and as parting ceremony, we all danced to the tunes of Bollywood songs, which the kids loved. Along with the goodies, we also provided the home with CCTV cameras for vigilance over the campus premises.

To sum it up the visit to Asha Kiran was a learning and fun experience for us as well as for the girls. The energy and participation by girls in all the events was tremendous. We took some great memories of the time spent and made some new bonds. Month of service is a great platform to interact with diverse sections of society. While providing an opportunity to do our bit for the society, it helps develop a different perspective towards it.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank our team and special thanks to our manager Atul Misra for motivating and enabling team members to join this event and making it a huge success.
