SAP S/4HANA – How to “Manage Your Solution” with SAP Activate

SAP Activate is the implementation framework for SAP S/4HANA delivering ready-to-run business processes, tools for an assisted implementation of SAP S/4HANA and an agile implementation methodology.

SAP Activate provides

  • a faster and less service intensive initial implementation
  • a quick time to value
  • rapid adoption of SAP S/4HANA innovations throughout the entire product lifecycle
  • continuous innovation over time

The assisted implementation utility of SAP Activate – often referred to as Guided Configuration – is an integral part of the product SAP S/4HANA and is provided through the “Manage Your Solution” Fiori-application. It consists of the following elements.

SAP-Activate-4.png

Configure Your Solution

Your implementation project does not start from scratch. The initial configuration of SAP S/4HANA is based on a pre-configured system providing ready-to run business processes with sample data and marks the starting point for an implementation. Based on the pre-configuration, the initial setup of SAP S/4HANA is prepared using guided configuration. Guided configuration combines our vast experience and business best practices into a friendly and easy-to‐use tool that enables customers to get the right configuration for their needs. Time- and cost intensive blueprinting phases with match to software capabilities are highly reduced. Experiencing the pre-configured system while performing a fit/gap analysis and an agile implementation project is today’s approach for an S/4HANA implementation.

/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/guidedconfig_860605.png

SAP Fiori-based, easy to use Self-Service Configuration UIs are provided alongside the phases of the implementation project in order to tailor the pre-configured processes to customer requirements. These easy-to-use UIs include only those configuration activities required for the preselected scope and are provided along the implementation phases of the project. With these UIs for example, adding a new subsidiary (company code) to the system, setting up a purchasing organization or adjusting approval thresholds in accounting is just a few clicks.

View Solution Scope

This feature provides you with a simple overview of processes that have been activated in your SAP S/4HANA solution. You can easily evaluate which business processes (scope items of the pre-configuration best practices) and which country versions are ready-to run.

/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/solutionscope_860622.png

Test Your Processes

Automated customer tests drastically reduce test – specifically regression test – efforts in the implementation project. The SAP S/4HANA solution does not only come with pre-configured business processes, but provides test automates and test scripts. With these tools and content, the test efforts (today a major portion of the efforts in an implementation project) can be reduced. You can create your own test plan, adapt customer data in the system and test the configuration changes that have been performed via the Self-Service Configuration UIs.

/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/testautomation_860623.png

Manage Your Test Processes

You can administrate the test processes in this area. Here, you decide which processes should be available in the test tool and change existing or add new test processes. Adding new process steps can be done manually or via a recording of system activities.

/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/managetest_860624.png

Migrate Your Data

Execute data migration directly out of your solution for data migration objects proposed based on the selected pre-configured business processes. As an installed base customer you can connect your SAP Business Suite system using the Landscape Transformation tool while new customers can take advantage of a template based migration approach. With the first SAP S/4HANA Cloud releases, a limited set of data migration objects is supported (focus on project services edition). Support of further objects is planned.

/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/migratedata_860625.png

User training & Onboarding

End-user training and on-boarding is another key effort driver in implementation and upgrade projects. A new user training and online help concept was introduced with SAP S/4HANA. Training material, help and documentation are now directly accessible from the application itself. The xRay framework in SAP S/4HANA provides this information as an overlay on each Fiori application and gives access to information right at the point where it is needed. The key characteristic of this approach is that it is very content centric. The drastic simplification can be achieved because content (configuration settings, documentation, help, and learning content, etc.) gets delivered with easy to use web-based tools together with the software itself across all deployment options including the cloud.

/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/xray_860626.png

SAP Activate for SAP S/4HANA provides a central access point to learning content including “Getting Started” and “Guided Tours”. Content can be chosen by typical user roles, such as Marketing Experts, Warehouse Clerks or Accounts Receivable Accountants.

Instant access to a free trial system

It has never been easier to experience the solution, touch and feel the UI and test the processes of SAP S/4HANA. Less than a minute away from the initial landing page the users acquire access to a fully configured cloud trial system with sample data. Based on a selected role, interactive guided tours are offered, that demonstrate the benefits of S/4HANA in the trial system. The user can escape from these tours at any point in time and check out the solution in more depth.

      Dear,

I plan to try the trial of S/4HANA On-Premise but there are a few things that confuses me about that.

The quick guide for the trial is from July 2015 when the latest S/4HANA 1511 On-Premise was not released and there is mentioned  "SAP Simple Finance 1503 SPS1505" as a trial system.

Also on the next step in the SAP Cloud Appliance Library for the only S/4HANA solution available in the Getting Start Guide (Document Version: 1.1 – 2015-09-16 ) is written:

SAP S/4HANA, on-premise edition - Fully Activated appliance consists of two appliances:

      1. SAP ERP 607 - Central Applications SPS08 / SAP HANA Platform Edition 1.0 - HANA DB SPS09

      2. SBOP BI Platform 4.1 - Enterprise Servers SPS05 .

The solution provides the following pre-activated business content scope adjusted for SAP Simple Finance 1503 SPS1505...

Am I wrong or we could not expect to find and try the "Manage your solution" app and guided configuration in that trial? Which is the best way for partners to access and try all the new features of SAP Activate and S/4HANA 1511?

      Thank you in advance.

      Hi Marino,

the SAP S/4HANA on-premise trial is today based on SAP Enterprise Foundation Extension and SAP Simple Finance 1503, as you already mention in your comment.

We'll be releasing the SAP S/4HANA on-premise trial based on product version SAP S/4HANA 1511 shortly.

The "Manage Your Solution" application is shipped as of product version 1511 of SAP S/4HANA, therefore you're right that you won't find it with the current on-premise appliance.

Currently the easiest way to access the features of guided and expert configuration is to install your own demo system on-premise. Alternatively you can wait until the new fully activated on-premise trial will be released based on SAP S/4HANA 1511.

      Best regards

      Holger

you could say that on April 1, but October 1 is more like it, and still subject to change.

The new 1511 fps01 Trial for on-premise is released!

Someone tried it yet, does it work fine?

after a restart or two i got it to work (host file config has changed), but it's not inexpensive especially as you navigate through tiles and options to get to the information that you knew by heart when using t-codes in SAPGUI.

i haven't tried it, but it looks like BW is now actually sharing the same instance/database as transactional (s4core) system. 'activate' has a separate client as well.

my hana studio is not working yet even though i got the latest code (2.2.12), but i'm hoping others have already figured it out as the license clock is ticking once you activate it in CAL.

      Hi Gregory,

have you tried the integrated Windows desktop in the trial (in CAL click on Connect Button > Remote Desktop) ? There, HANA Studio / ABAP in Eclipse should be working and no local hosts file fumbling.

      Best,

      Joerg

      Hi,

We set up S/4HANA 1511 on premise edition following admin guide and activated new best practices baseline package, in explore phase when we enter app "manage your solution" and click "Start" for "CompanyCode - configure" we get error message:

      Capture1.PNG

How can we solve this problem?

      Thanks in advance,

      Best regards,

      Hi Tomislav,

this error message could be raised if an oData service for this app is de-actvated or not properly configured.

Check in TA /n/IWFND/MAINT_SERVICE if the services for the implementation cockpit (that's the 'Manage your solution' app) are activated.

You might also see specific errors in the Gateway error log (TA /n/IWFND/ERROR_LOG) or in the browser dev console (e.g. Chrome Ctrl-Shft-I).

      Best,

      Joerg

      Hi Joerg,

thank you for your answer, we checked odata services in our system and we have already activated services for implementation cockpit following administration guide, but  Gateway error log shows messages:

      Capture4.PNG

Could you please provide us with information how we can solve this problems, and what exactly we need to do?

      Author's profile photo Joerg Wolf
      Joerg Wolf

      Hi Tomislav,

this still looks like an issue with some oData services (even if the ones for implementation cockpit work).

Since this comment thread here is a bit cumbersome for tracking errors, I'd propose to open a message (component SV-CLD) if you can not resolve the problem by evaluating the detailed error logs.

      Best,

      Joerg

      Hi Holger,

We are trying to configure Mange your Solution  using the admin guide.  I have few queries:

      1. We don't have a separate gateway hub system, can we use our S4HANA on-premise system's local gateway for Fiori configuration?

We have used this setup, while activating the service FXM_BAL_EXP_SRV using the task list it triggers a short dump and the task fails.

      2. Guide says to assign the role SAP_BR* for end users. We can find the role sin AGR_AGRS2 but cannot assign the roles to user. They don't exists in AGR_DEFINE.

We also activated the solution but it didn't create the roles.

      3. Are the Catalogs and Tiles for standard apps are delivered as part of S4Core or SAp_UI 750 release. There aren't any other Fiori apps deplyed on our S4HANA on premise system.

      Thanks,

      Vamshi.

      Hi Holger

Can the phases move backwards as well as forwards?
I know different options are available on the screen dependent on phase.

We are using On Premise 1511 FPS 1 and looking at trialling this.

I've configured this as much as I can, and on the whole it seems to work.  I am just apprehensive about moving phases in our demo system if they can't be easily reverted.

Otherwise, a very useful and informative blog.

      Thanks

      Hi Barry,

in OP1511, we recommend to use the manage your solution app as a trial only - which you are doing. Normally, it is not recommended to switch back the phases. For a trial, you can use the transaction /fti/set_impl_phase.

      Best regards,

      Susanne

      Hi Susanne

Thank you for your response.  Yes we are using the system as a demo but to internally train ourselves so we can take this offering to clients.

I have worked out how to take the phases back to the beginning - but not back a single phase.  the transaction /n/fti/set_impl_phase only allows you to move phases forward - not to undo.

      I shall continue to investigate.

      Thanks

      Susanne

      Hello Holger,

Very detailed and informative information covering the "Guided Implementation" using SAP Best Practices on S/4HANA. I do have question on transferring the scope information that has been activated on S/4HANA to SAP Solution Manager 7.2. Is it possible to transfer(Export) what has been scoped and Import into to SAP Solution Manager 7.2 Solution Administration/Branches that will be used during Solution Documentation/Process Management. Currently, importing SAP Best Practices content brings the entire content versus being able to select what has been scoped?

      Thank you,

      Hi Holger

Our customer is procuring S/4 Business suite on HANA cloud edition.

I have few queries on S/4 HANA Guided Configuration

      1. We are extracting more than 10 million material master data from mainframes and need to migrate to S/4 HANA cloud. In the manage your solution under migrate your data tab it’s a excel based app. How to migrate this huge volume of data
      2. What is the technology is used behind the migrate your data. Is SAP data services or LT?. If customer don’t have both data service or LT license
      3. Is the possible to migrate the data using non SAP ETL solutions?
      4. As per the statement only limited set of migration objects is available. If i want to develop non available objects were to be developed?

      5. Kindly let me know answers for these queries.

      Thanks and Regards

      Vijay
