When I think of November, I think about the leaves falling from the tree, sipping warm tea on a chilly day, holiday shopping, and of course, SAP CodeJams. Despite everything, we were able to conduct 10 events, in seven different cities, and in seven different countries. We are thankful to developers such as yourselves, that we are able to continue conducting these event, so cheers to that!

Introducing SAP CodeJam Exclusive Edition: This month, we conducted our first ever SAP CodeJam Exclusion Edition at the General Mills in Mumbai. SAP CodeJam Exclusion Editions are events where individual organizations get a chance to let their own development teams come together with SAP experts for a two-day combination event. These combination events allow SAP experts to show up to 50 developers from a specific organizations, new technologies from SAP and how these technologies work together with their existing systems. The event format is specifically only for the requesting organizations and their employees.

The SAP CodeJam Exclusion Edition General Mills focused on SAPUI5 with Web IDE and SAP Gateway. Read more about the event here.

Topic of the Month: SAP HANA with IoT

SAP CodeJam is designed to focus on a single topic, allowing participants to get familiar with one specific SAP platform or technology at a time. This month our events covered six different topics:

  • SAP HANA with IoT
  • SAP HANA with SAPUI5
  • SAPUI5
  • SAPUI5 with Web IDE
  • SAP Gateway
  • ABAP for SAP HANA Fundamentals

Continue reading this to see what our Featured Expert, Aaron Williams, has to say about SAP HANA with IoT.

Getting to Know the Expert: aaron.williams

Aaron Williams has been working for SAP for about eight years and was asked to be a SAP CodeJam expert earlier this year. Within just this year, Aaron has completed 15 CodeJams thus far.

Aaron states, “I like being a SAP CodeJam expert because I like the opportunity to teach and explain new technologies that SAP offers. I also get travel and meet new and fellow developers outside of SAP; I have travelled to four continents just this year.”

In my conversation with Aaron, I asked him to share some interesting facts about SAP HANA with IoT, and this is what he had to say:

“People don’t realize that SAP has been using IoT for the past 10-15 years. The price has gone down so much over the years, that it now allows us to censor everything and that is why the phrase IoT is so relevant. When you combine IoT with in-memory database SAP HANA, you have the power to analyze data in real-time and turn it into actionable processes.”

Fun Fact: Aaron was on the UC Irvine swim team, where he swam Division One.

What are People Saying?

Feedback is very essential to us as it helps us grow and improve future SAP CodeJam events. Here is what our attendees have to say about us this month:

“The most amazing thing was the fact that we got to interact with the Tessel, and learn a lot of things about the concept of IoT, as well as the applicability of SAP technologies that can be used in order to make this concept a reality”

Timisoara, November 27th

“I liked the freestyle approach, it is available for every level of experience”

‘s-Hertogenbosch. November 20th

“I believe this was the event which we normally have at SAP TechEd, it was great to see it brought down to the office premise which is very good. Everyone that was interested benefited from the same. Good idea”

Where have we been this month?

Not sure what SAP CodeJam is?

SAP CodeJam is a 5 to 6 hours event where a small group of developers get together for an afternoon of networking, learning, and coding in an ultra-casual environment all for free. Attendees get a chance to share and expand their knowledge and collaboratively develop with SAP technologies, platforms and tools under the watchful guidance of an expert. The events are developer community focused and supported by SAP, exploring technologies available through the SAP Developer Center.
