S/4HANA Conversion – Custom Code Migration Worklist using CAL in less than an hour
Nots: Please refer below blog for most uptodate information on this topic: https://blogs.sap.com/2017/02/15/sap-s4hana-system-conversion-custom-code-adaptation-process/
S/4HANA transition path for conversion Prepare phase requires Custom Code Migration Worklist to be prepared to analyse custom code using simplification DB. This requires Netweaver 7.5 ABAP system which would have to be installed and would need hardware resources and time delaying decision. In most cases this NW 7.5 system is only created for this purpose and needed for less than an hour to run the report. This can be done by using CAL (Cloud Appliances Library) solution to create instance in Amazon Web Services. The instance is created only for the purpose of running report and can be terminated after report is completed which is a a security advantage.
For more information about the Custom Code Check tool, see SAP Help Portal: Link and the following SCN blog: SAP S/4HANA Custom Code Migration Worklist. In the prepare phase the procedure is shown below
The process is as shown below diagram shown below:
PART A is already done for you as the Cloud Appliance is prebuilt with it but you may need to download and update using latest CCMS DB CCMSIDB00P_3-80001018.zip dated 14-Apr-2016. If new one is released , please update as described in procedure in Section 3.
PART B is covered in Section 2 – Steps to be performedin Source ERP system. You run report SYCM_DOWNLOAD_REPOSITORY_INFO to extracted the custom code repository metadata information zip file
PART C is covered in Section 3– Steps to create and perform in ABAP Netweaver 7.5 system. The ZIP filename from ERP is only an example and you may provide your own filenames. You login to the created NW 7.5 instance and run report SYCM_UPLOAD_REPOSITORY_INFO to upload repository info. Then
run report SYCM_DISPLAY_SIMPLIFICATIONS which finishes in few minutes.
The cost of the instance is USD0.31 per hour. The whole process is completed in less than an hour as follows based on actual timings of few cases:
Create instance – 20 mins
Update Notes – 2 mins (if needed)
Upload Repository zip file – 2 min
Display simplification Report – 2 mins
If you have AWS access, the CAL Solution below is available with Notes and Simplification DB updated to 9th Dec 2015, and solution also has latest updated document is attached as “Getting Started Guide“. This CAL solution access is only available to SAP internal.

Hello Mahesh,
thanks for pointing out this opportunity!
Kind Regards,
Frank
Updated with url of the document that you can use.
The same document is also attached to the CAL Solution so the latest document is used.
Hi, I was wondering how this solution could fit the brand new NW 7.51 scenario.
When is availability of NW 7.51 Innovation Package planned on CAL?
As a second concern, my undestanding is that the new tools for code analysis would mandatorily require an RFC connection to the source system. Any plan to make the download/upload option available for code analysis on NW 7.51 as well?
Thanks and regards,
Andrea
Hi Andrea,
You can add to this scenario the Code Inspector Checks using 7.50
The new method using NW 7.51 is still in development and is not yet released. In this new solution some of the upload/download is done through RFC connection.
Regards,
- Mahesh
