Operational Visibility with SAP MII SSCE
SAP MII is a well know product to provide integration and intelligence capabilities to integrate disparate system in shop floor and also to create plant performance management dashboard for different roles involved in the company. SAP MII is a manufacturing platform which provided modelling capabilities to retrieving the data, writing business logic, visualization data into different charts/controls, integrating data to any system with different standards. One of the key missing feature in MII was a modeling tool to create the dashboard quickly which can be used for IT developer and also by a business person with minimum training. MII Self Service Composition environment was added as part of MII 15.o release providing a HTML5 based design tool to create plant performance management dashboard by simply dragging and dropping different MII content object and configuring it to your need. the tool has been continuously being evolved in 15.1 release also providing a variety of use cases to cover almost all type of visualization capabilities.
Using SSCE, you could create any type of layout and drag any of the MII content i.e. Query template, design template, MDO, KPI, resource files, PIC and UI elements to create any type of dashboard.
Additionally it provides some of the key features out of box as mentioned below.
- Authorization control on the dashboard in terms of who can modify and view the dashboard.
- Out of box compatibility for mobile devices.
- Ability to do where used of any MII content and PIC to find which dashboard it is being used.
- Built in Alert Integration. Alerts for the dashboard user will automatically come at right top corner
- Uniform time and PIC control from the top of the dashboard
- Header/Footer integration – Provide specific header and footer to provide company branding.
- Configuration of events for cross cell integration – Update one cell on event from another cell through configuration. no coding.
- Ability to build custom side panel to integrate any other objects into SSCE visualization
- Integration of PIC sensor data on a 3D image
Here are some nice dashboard created with few clicks using SSCE.
Tag on top of image with/without Area
Dashboard with a form and charts.
KPI as tiles along with tag/query on top of image
SVG on top of Image showing data in the context
Showing Gauge on image and camera feed with EverCam
tag as a Gauge on top of IMage
Tag bound to a component in 3D file
Using SSCE, one can create the dashboard of different needs very quickly. Below find some detail how to documents for each of the functionality available in SSCE which could help in quick realization of your needs.

Thanks Rajeev, it is very useful Blog for beginners on SSCE area.
Hi Rajeev,
great collection. Thanks. Unfortunately a lot of documents aren´t available anymore. Is there any chance that you have an update to those links?
Best Regards
Max
Thank you for such a comprehensive article.
I am in awe of this!!
Warm Regards,

Thank you for sharing !!!
Thank you Rajeev for sharing. I have a question: how I can view 3D file on SSCE and is what I should use a CAD(Autocad, Autodesk...) tool for designing drawings?
Hamza
We support SAP visual Enterprise compliant extension i.e. .vds file. please convert the CAD file to VDS file format and then use it in SSCE. thanks Rajeev
Thanks another time Rajeev, I notice That SAP Visual Enterprise contains several parts: SAP 3D Visual Entreprise Generator, Author, Viewer. so, what part does it take to ensure visualization functionality?
for Example I only have SAP VIsual Entreprise Viewer and SAP Visual Entreprise manager?
Thanks Hamza
I am not an expert in VE.
.vds file is rendered in HTML using UI5 controls and hence none of the above tools are needed to view this in MII. i believe .vds file can be generated using VE Generator or Author.
thanks
Rajeev
