If you’ve ever wondered what the information governance capabilities are in your organization, SAP has launched an online solution to measure where you are today and where you want to be.  The Information Governance Assessment tool enables business and IT data managers and leaders to assess the state of a data process or information management requirement against industry-accepted definitions.  The model also describes if the process or requirements is capable of continuous improvement through quantitative measure and feedback. SAP developed the assessment methodology based on common definitions of best practice information governance capabilities with a comprehensive set of requirements for best in class information management.  Technology is implied and embedded in each capability. Capability maturity describes the indication of how close a data process or information management requirement is to being mature, and capable of continuous improvement through quantitative measure and feedback.  Users are able to enter and save their assessments online, measuring their current execution level for each of the information governance capabilities. Results can be used to compare progress over time with scores visualized online or in a PDF.  Scores are based on answers to a series of brief questions, after which a maturity “level” for each capability is calculated from a 0-4 point scale. Once input is collected from the various and multiple stakeholders, a summary score is calculated and entered it into the assessment model.
