SAP BW Query Optimization: Use of Selection of Structure Elements

The “Use Selection of Structure Elements” gives performance boost to BW query. By using this function the system only passes to the database the selections and key figures (KFs) of the columns (or structure elements) currently used to filter the query.

A result set might have less rows than the result set calculated with the flag set to false. Normally this function should be activated in most cases except not in following conditions:

• This function therefore cannot be activated if the query has read mode ‘A’

• You are using virtual KFs and are doing calculations/changes on KFs that are hidden in the query result (SAP Note 2118240)
• You are using a virtual provider based on a function modules that is requiring the information of KFs hidden in the query result
• You are using Constant Selection in KFs where characteristics used as constant selection is hidden in the Query

How to use this?

Goto RSRT and enter your BW Query and hit “Properties” button.
