Solution Manager Update – Three things I learned from TECHED 2015

Three things I learned from TECHED 2015

This year’s TechEd was comprised of 456 sessions over 4 days covering everything technical from strategy to development tools.

The conference started on Monday with the ASUG pre-conference seminars including getting ready for Solution Manager 7.2. I will be covering the detailed approach to moving to 7.2 in later blogs. The main learning was 7.2 will be about driving value through Improved Business Process Management and Innovation. The keys to this are:

  • New Business Requirements Management
  • New Business Process modeling and monitoring
  • New Activate Methodology (replaces ASAP) fully integrated in Solution Manger


The opening keynote was from Steve Lucas – the head of SAP’s Platform Solutions. This is the second time I have seen Steve’s message around ECC on HANA as the Core to the Digital Enterprise and the HANA Cloud Platform providing the ability to run and extend solutions via the Cloud. Steve explained that SAP is focused on its Platform as a Service (PAAS), the HANA Cloud Platform, as the future direction for SAP applications and development – a Cloud First Strategy. Due to my coffee addiction the Fiori café became a key area of focus. Luckily there was also plenty of information to digest around SAP’s HANA Cloud Platform deployment option for Fiori (Fiori Cloud Edition). This means no on premise Fiori Development environment with the ability to consume applications on cloud or on premise. This simplifies deployment and accelerates time to value. If you are thinking about discovering the value of Fiori’s new user experience, then Fiori in the Cloud is a no brainer!

So wrapping it all up my top three takeaways were:

  • Solman 7.2 = Improved Business Process Management and Innovation
  • SAP Strategy = Cloud First
  • Fiori Cloud Edition is a no brainer

I also found out that the Piano bar in the Palazzo was the late night place to meet for anyone going next year!
