New WEBCUIF Standard Theme: Blue Crystal

The Web Client UI Framework (WEBCUIF) is now offering the new standard SAP Blue Crystal theme. SAP Blue Crystal is the new visual design theme, introduced by SAP Fiori, which succeeds the older Corbu design. It is based on the same interaction design and UI controls as Corbu, but uses different colors. This new visual design offers a modern and fresh look.

SAP Blue Crystal can also be used to integrate existing user interfaces into SAP Fiori scenarios. It thus aims to reduce visual disruption between the different technologies. it harmonizes the coloring and design of different controls, but does not resemble Fiori’s user interaction, navigation and the like.

Characteristics of the “SAP Blue Crystal” design for Unified Rendering:

  • very light design
  • less use of grey colors
  • harmonized coloring with “SAP Blue Crystal” for SAPUI5
  • based on the metrics of “SAP Corbu”
  • uses CSS3 technology

It's cool that SAP is doing something in the UX/UI direction but this skin is really mediocre. For example, recent items icon (size / positioning) reminds me of first HTML pages made by kids in school. Aside from that, the spacing, fonts etc. - it all looks inconsistent and chaotic, which renders whole interface unfriendly, thick and a bit tiresome.
Thumbs-up however for using less greys and making the design lightweight-ish 🙂

All in all, I find the UI so important, even (or rather mailny) during bid/sales process (when mgmt makes the decision whether to implement the system or not), that I would really expect such a rich company as SAP to employ UI/UX gurus, who are equally good as those in Apple or Google.

Always eager to hear the news 🙂

      Hey Marek,

Thanks for the feedback (even if it is not always easy to hear 😉 ). Be sure that we are consistently working on the UI look and feel, and evolving/fixing it.

You can see and follow the work of SAP UI/UX gurus at https://experience.sap.com/fiori-design/. SAP has been making a lot of investment in User Experience over the past years and is continuing to do so. Now it's the job of every UI Framework (like WEBCUIF) to make this vision a reality. The Blue Crystal theme is a first step for us, but you can expect more changes in the next months.

      Hi Jean-Yves,

now, after a year, nothing has changed in blue crystal theme as far as I can see. It is still unuseable from my point of view. Who designed those curious icons? I'm of the same opinion as Marek: This theme looks like designed by kids in school :o(

Just replacing those funny icons by the 'corbu' icons would make things better!

      Regards

      Manfred

      Hi Jean-Yves,

any more updates on this? The Blue Crystal theme seems to only change the colors of CRM WebUI. Are there any further updates in order to make WebUI more mobile-friendly, i.e. bigger buttons, responsive layout etc?

      Thank you.

      Regards,

      Matthias

      Hey Jean-Yves

We have recently upgraded our CRM to EhP4. As such blue crystal is there in all its glory. We went ahead and designed a new theme for our company, and saved it. We however want to make it the default entry but are unable to. It appears that blue crystal is saved as the skin, with the theme as a sub option of blue crystal. How can we make our theme the default for ALL users?

      Regards

      Marshal

      Hello Marshal,

Default Skin / Theme can be in Technical Profile added. So a make a new Technical Profile copying existing a one or use existing one, assign the Skin and assign the Technical Profile to Business Role..

      Thanks,

      Krish
