Saturday October 10, 2015

Our mighty group of 22 SAP employees and family members gathered at the San Diego Food Bank on Saturday October 10, 2015.  We were there to help package food to be delivered to the ever growing population of families, elderly, military, and homeless that need food desperately.   In the 2 ½ short hours our team was there we collectively inspected and sorted through 3000 pounds of fresh produce,  assembled 2,000 bags of rice, and packaged 7,000 pounds of food.

Before we started work, the San Diego Food Bank shared a couple of videos so we could see the faces of the people we were helping.  These videos touched all of us as they showed us children that with the help of the food bank could now focus on their schoolwork because their stomachs were no longer growling and keeping them distracted, retired people who worked hard and saved but still found themselves unable to support themselves, military families that needed help making ends meet.

Here are the links to the videos:

The Food Bank serves, on average, over 370,000 people per month in communities and cities throughout San Diego County. Last year, the San Diego Food Bank distributed more than 700,000 pounds of food to veterans, active-duty service members and their dependents.

I was impressed with the mission of the food bank and the level of outreach that they have in the community.  It motivated me to sign up for additional shifts at their North County facility.”
