SAP GUI History not getting saved

Issue:

SAP GUI History (backspace) for fields is not getting saved.

Pre-Requisites:

  • – Close all your SAP sessions including your SAP logon pad

10-27-2015 9-35-29 AM.jpg

Resolution/Procedure:

  • Go to Windows Start > All Programs > SAP Front End > SAP GUI Configuration (1)
  • In your GUI Configuration options click on ‘Local Data’ folder (2) and then ‘History’ (3)
  • Change history status to ‘OFF’ (4) and click on ‘Apply’ (7)
  • Click on history status back to ‘ON’ (5) and click on ‘Apply’ (7)
  • Click ‘Clear History’ (6) button and finally click ‘OK ’ (8) to close this window

10-27-2015 9-39-26 AM.jpg

Now this should take care of the history not getting saved. Reopen SAP GUI and try it out!

Special Thanks to my friend Amritpal Flora

Raj Kumar Reddy

      Hi,

Will this procedure retain old history?

      Hi Rohit,

I believe this procedure solves the history problem but may not save old history — do test it out on a sandbox and let me know.

      Regards,

      Raj

I was struggling for so long after applying a patch on my GUI installation. Thank you for the fix.

It’s good to be working normally again and not pasting table names in notepad!

OMG that finally worked! Thank you so much!

I've been trying and suffering for days, after upgrading from version 740 to 750, when the history stopped working.
I've tried everything but it didn't work until now. Although I had to change one thing because it didn't worked right away: I had changed the History folder to a new one.

Then I had to do your directions 2 times:
1st to eliminate existing history .md file and then, changing the history folder back to the Default one.

2nd, followed your directions again, now with the default History folder set up.
      After that, it worked.

      Thanks again!

      Hello Raj,

I tried your steps for saving object list history, initially it did work for some days but again after few days the history got deleted automatically. Can you please help me to save the history permanently.

I'm using SAP GUI 740 application and also connecting to SAP application via citrix.

      Thank you.

      Hi Ajinkya,

Citrix is a bit different and may not work with this solution. You can check this note 1927001 which may be applicable.

FYI: 7.40 is out of support already, consider using 7.50 at the earliest time.
