Challenge the talents - Vocational Training@SAP
Vocational Training has a long tradition at SAP. It all began in 1979 when the first student started his studies in Business Management at SAP. Since then the Vocational Training@SAP program has been rolled-out from Germany to China, India and Brazil. Up to now more than 2.800 students participated in the program.
In Germany there are three training centres, located in Walldorf, Markdorf and Dresden. In cooperation with the Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University (DHBW) in Ravensburg / Weingarten, the Sustainability Lab offers the Bachelor of Business Science degree in Business Information Technology. Every year 10 highly motivated, engaged and qualified new students are acquired for this Dual System Vocational Training. The studies lasts three years so that altogether there are 30 students trained in the Lab which is abt. 10 % of all employees in Markdorf.
Search for talents
The Sustainability Lab starts the search for talents already in school. We support project groups in the local grammar School in Markdorf, e. g. the Roboter AG. Pupils at the age of 12 to 19 years meet every Friday to develop and improve roboters for soccer games.

Explore IT challenge
Since more than 10 years, the Sustainability Lab organizes a yearly IT contest named Explore IT for pupils visiting the regional grammar schools. The contest was invented in 2004 by TechniData and is continued by SAP since 2011.
Explore IT aims at giving the participants an insight into the IT sector. At the same time we want to encourage social and methodology competences like analytical thinking and team spirit.
Participants in the Explore IT contest are teams of pupils from different Grammar Schools in the Lake of Constance region. They are working on a complex IT project for several months. Thereby they are supported by the dual system students in the Sustainability Lab. The best projects are honored in an award giving ceremony which is attended by representatives of the regional economy and politics.
Since the beginning of the Explore IT contest, the Sustainability Lab acquires one potential student per year for SAP. Up to now 10 Explore IT participants have finished their dual system studies in the Lab. 6 of them stayed with SAP and are working as developer or technical consultant in the field of EHS.
Internship@SAP
The vocational training department at SAP offers three times a year an internship in Walldorf and Markdorf. Once a year an internship in Dresden is offered. During the internship interested pupils have the extraordinary opportunity to get to know the SAP Lines of Business and to work at specific projects.
In 2016 the Sustainability Lab Markdorf offers three internships: Besides the traditional internship in the summer vacations there will be a Girls@SAP day. With this event we want to enthuse especially girls for an education at SAP. During autumn vacation 2016 there will be the first Sustainability Lab UI5 Hackathon where IT-Freaks can do coding on concrete projects.
