September is a month of changes. The weather changes from warm to breezy winds, the leaves turn golden, we trade our shorts in for sweaters and the season changes from summer to fall. I like changes, they help us continuously grow and adapt to different situations but I also like having a constant in my life, a constant such as SAP CodeJam. This month we conducted 13 events in 11 different cities in 10 different countries. It is because of developers like you that we are able to keep these events a constant in our lives, so thank you!
Where Have We Been?
Topic of the Month: SAP HANA Cloud Platform mobile services
SAP CodeJam is designed to focus on a single topic, allowing participants to get familiar with one specific SAP platform or technology at a time. This month our events covered seven different topics:

Getting to Know the Expert: Jim Jaquet 
Jim Jaquet has been working for SAP for a little over three years, conducted his first CodeJam in 2013 in Miami and has been a SAP CodeJam expert ever since.
Jim told me that he likes being a CodeJam expert because of the opportunity to introduce our technology to customers, partners, and students. Jim said, “While mobile development can sometimes be daunting, I like showing our CodeJam attendees that SAP has really made mobile implementations straightforward and easy.”
As always, I asked Jim to share some interesting facts and tips about HCP mobile services and this is what he had to say:
“SAP HANA Cloud Platform mobile services has fantastic capabilities packaged up in an online service. I frequently tell new mobile developers that every mobile application in the enterprise needs to do two things very well. The first is authentication, you want to grant access to authorized users and keep everyone else out. There is no shortage of stories about security breaches, and the need for strong authentication is here to stay. The second would be to provide access to a back-end system, which could be in the cloud or on-premise. What some people may not realize is that in addition to doing these two things really well, a true mobile deployment application would also support a number of other capabilities such as the ability to store data offline and synchronize, the ability to update the applications easily, take advantage of push notifications for better user experience, and support analytics and logging to track the adoption and usage of mobile applications. These capabilities and more are available through HCP mobile services.”
Fun Fact:
Jim’s undergraduate majored and earned a degree was a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering and worked on satellite programs aerospace engineering. “I get a kick out of people who say you don’t have to be a rocket scientist to understand because as a matter of fact, I am a rocket scientist.”

Not sure what SAP CodeJam is?
SAP CodeJam is a 5 to 6 hours event where a small group of developers get together for an afternoon of networking, learning, and coding in an ultra-casual environment all for free. Attendees get a chance to share and expand their knowledge and collaboratively develop with SAP technologies, platforms and tools under the watchful guidance of an expert. The events are developer community focused and supported by SAP, exploring technologies available through the SAP Developer Center.
How can you request a CodeJam event?
Anyone can host an SAP CodeJam event in their city. If you are interested, please send your request to sapcodejam@sap.com and include the following info in the email: name and email of the local contact person for the event, country and city in which the event will take place, estimated number of attendees (25 – 40), topic of the event, location, 3 possible dates. Someone in the SAP CodeJam team will get back to you within 1 – 2 days to confirm and finalize the details. Click here for additional information about these events.
