TechniData, founded in 1985, was a long-term development partner from SAP, focusing on software solutions in the field of Environment, Health and Safety (EH&S), before they were acquired by SAP in 2010. Based on 25 years product experience and a profound knowledge of the market, TechniData’s headquarter in Markdorf advanced to the SAP Sustainability Labs. More than 300 employees in Markdorf and Siegen are now working on an even broader scope of Sustainability solutions and services to be the epicenter of SAP’s Sustainability transformation. We are also very proud to have an own education department for the Collaboration with the DHBW. 30 early talents are located in Markdorf.
Our business experts, engineers and developers have broad expertise in SAP Business Suite, HANA, Fiori and Cloud solutions, including S4HANA. Innovative business models and products are developed in combination with the SAP EHS Management application. Content as a Service (CaaS) production and delivery options, such as Product Stewardship On Demand and Expert Service for EH&S solutions, are cornerstones of our capabilities and incubators for SAP's cloud offerings.
For the “Content as a Service” offering, which is a different business model of business process outsourcing in the cloud (BPO), an own legal entity (SAP-BCS) was founded. SAP BCS with its headquarter in Siegen (near Cologne) is a satellite of the Sustainability Labs

The labs are also the home for the Sustainability consultants. Most of them have already been working with TechniData and are experts in the market for many years. Due to their professionalism trustworthy relationships with customers could be established, resulting in long-term project engagements. In customer councils and advisory boards customers bring in their experience and best practices to commonly improve the Sustainability offering.
The Sustainability Labs also maintain a vital ecosystem with customers, partners and business experts. Regular conferences like the “SAP Lab User Group Regulatory Content” are well perceived as info pool for new product developments and enhancements and as networking platform.
It is our focus to maintain a strong partnership with other SAP locations, to enable collaboration among the LoBs and to foster the SAP thought leadership for Sustainability. That’s why the Sustainability Lab is the host of the Sustainability Days. Once a year, the Sustainability community meets in Markdorf to learn about the Sustainability portfolio strategy, product innovations and customer success stories. With more than 150 participants, this is the biggest SAP event for collaboration across all sustainability stakeholders and departments.
“We are driving “One Team for EHS”
Innovation is also a passion of the Labs. This year for the 3rd time, we offer the EHS the Innovation Days to implement innovative ideas into prototypes or mock-ups. As in previous years, the event was very successful and attracted a lot of interest. The selected topics focused on fiorization, cloudification, refabrication and replacing an existing product by a state-of-the-art solution. One of the teams developed innovations in the Lab-owned d-shop which was certainly a highlight of the event. Most workshops were held using Design Thinking for finding creative solutions.
