After spending my time in Design School at Stanford University, I tend to realize the value of Design Thinking practices that help generate insights in establishing space for Innovation in Projects undertaken. SAP projects are no different. It is important because they yield in User Experience and help question Change vs Challenge. Amidst process harmonization , process consultants constantly face the challenge to change what they do today or challenge what is proposed to them for tomorrow. W.r.t product adoption , solution consultants constantly face the challenge to change the product solution to align with user needs or to challenge his needs. Many a time these deadlocks lay the foundation for innovation by players who play without constraints or compromise but deliver with commitment.
Companies have spent millions of dollars in adopting SAP processes that have been benchmarked as collection of Best Practices to only realize they are no longer a differentiator at the marketplace. In the past, SAP projects adopted ASAP methodology or variations of this to help educate customers of the standard framework adopted to move offline processes on to SAP. ASAP methodology framework delivers structured methodology content — processes, procedures, accelerators, checklists, links to standard SAP documentation, etc. necessary for the implementation of SAP solutions.
“When the speed of change on the outside is greater than the speed of change on the inside, the end is near.” – Jack Walsh
What this [methodology] allowed is Transparency in value creation process, consistent guidance in the business value generated over the project life cycle. Project Leaders and Project Teams were aligned to have a consistent understanding of the challenges and their agreeable solutions. But upon going live with the solution , the arrow misses the bulls eye constantly , when system design confronts data reality.
Decoding the corporate buzzwords : Analyze the Creativity Quotient…
Innovation, Design Thinking , Agile Development , Rapid Deployment….
The most important factor is having the goals for the effort aligned.
My way or Highway is no longer valid….
SAP realized that apart from the way we do what we do , it also matters who does what he does , how he does and why he does that way. Empathy and also Point of View that is defined by the user needs and wisdom are critical in implementing a solution that meets business objectives. The team can collaborate to generate ideas without keeping product aesthetics in mind. This is key to creativity. Often people who compete to solve the challenges realistically kill the possibilities for innovation.
Once the process solution is liberated from the constraints of product challenges , we make space for Tangible Innovation. Innovators of this age are taking a human-centered approach to enable the cultivation and development of ideas into tangible strategies and offerings. It accelerates innovation to help create better solutions for the challenges facing business and society. All the best with your effort to Innovate!!!
