I had the pleasure to speak with students in three Mendoza classes this week.
First we visited a sophomore business class of 85 students entitled Principles of Management led by Christopher Stevens. I discussed SAP strategy, the importance of the IT Industry, and career opportunities with SAP. We invited students to participate in the new VisitND Challenge and explore job opportunities with SAP. The class description in the Notre Dame course catalog is as follows:
A study of the management process, including planning, organizing, staffing, directing, and controlling. Emphasis is placed on executive leadership, organizational behavior, and management theory.
Next on the agenda was the Marketing Planning for Growth class which is offered to business school seniors. My primary purpose in visiting this class was to talk about my innovation agenda with Notre Dame and in particular the VisitND challenge. The professor John Weber had eight student teams form while I was there so they could develop initial ideas for the challenge. The class description in the Notre Dame course catalog is as follows:
The Marketing Planning Process learned in this course can itself serve as a unique and important differentiator for helping your company to capture new business. The process emphasized and learned in this course will be especially beneficial for anyone who envisions being responsible for top line revenue growth. This is especially relevant for anyone aspiring to positions where career success will be heavily dependent upon one’s proven abilities to bring in profitable new business on a regular basis. Thus, this course will be especially valuable for aspiring high level division, sector, regional or national Marketing executives, aspiring Chief Marketing Officers, aspiring partners in consulting, financial, accounting or legal firms, and aspiring entrepreneurs. Success in all of these careers will be largely dependent upon one’s proven ability to bring in substantial, profitable new business on a regular basis as a so-called “rainmaker.” Students in this course will learn proven, sound theoretical, yet practical processes for doing just that.
Finally I spoke to the MBA students in their Problem Solving class. I presented the new “Enabling Digital Business with SAP” presentation material which contains rich content on how our solutions enable changes in customer experience, business networks, workforce engagement, and the Internet of Things. The class description in the Notre Dame course catalog is as follows:
This course will introduce students to opportunities to integrate the lessons learned from accounting, finance, marketing, operations, strategy, and organizational behavior in order to solve business problems. Frameworks to assist in framing threats/opportunities, problem diagnosis, solution development, and recommendation implementation will also be discussed. Students will practice using these integrative frameworks to facilitate problem-solving in at least 7 business cases from identification of problem, to recommendation, to implementation plan. Each of the cases chosen emphasizes different aspects of problem solving and integration including: microeconomics, game theory, finance, market estimation and competitor assessment, customer segmentation and economics, product pricing, positioning and branding, and operations.
It was a very busy and rewarding day as we met many more students and contributed to curriculum and SAP engagement across campus.
