The Lumira BizViz hackathon truly exceeded all our expectations – by far! So hard to put this in a few words – the vibe, the motivation, the fun were all amazing. We are of course extremely happy about the overwhelming feedback from the participants (see tag cloud below),we are excited about the visualization extensions that were created, and we are proud to be part of SAP Silicon Valley: It was truly outstanding to see the support we got from so many different teams to pull this off, and everyone who works in a large enterprise knows what I am talking about 😉 What an event! 3 days of hacking, learning, creativity, networking and tons of FUN! We were able to create new Lumira Viz extensions!
We are passionate about building up an fostering a developer community for Lumira. As we glean best practices and polish the code from the extensions from the weekend, we and the participants plan to put them out to GitHub (where people build software). All extensions are already shown on our Gallery of open sourced Extensions – with screenshots, where the code is not quite ready yet.
Our products are well received in the developer community!
With many hackathon participants new to the idea of a client-based tool into which one imports data to get a visual picture of it, we weren’t sure what the reaction from the community would be. It couldn’t have been better! My top three responses? |
From Early Talent to Enterprise Scale Projects
It was inspiring to see how the participants from different walks of life connected and collaborated. In particular, seeing resumes switching hands from university talent (San Francisco, San Jose, Santa Clara) to SAP recruiting and participants from other companies showed that the impact of the event went beyond the weekend. And more good stuff: Professors exchanged ideas with developers about future curriculums, SAP product managers connected with customers to work on successful projects, and representatives of the vibrant local d3 community walked away with great new ideas and possibilities.
Last but not least – I’d like to thank my wonderful team for months of hard work – full of enthusiasm and passion! And of course many thanks to everyone on campus that has helped us pulling off this ueber event, we would not have done it without them!
