The San Francisco 49ers Academy opened in 1996 and is designed to keep kids safe, on track and in school in East Palo Alto. The Cocktails & Couture event is an annual “girlfriend event” where women come together to celebrate, sip, shop, savor and embrace the empowerment of an event designed by women for women.
As the Volunteer Ambassador for this opportunity, I was responsible for recruiting volunteers to help set up this annual event. I shared all of the details of the day with the SAPsv volunteers including information on the activities we would be helping with and what each employee should expect. I was thrilled that all six volunteers showed up on time and was ready to lend a hand.
As part of the volunteer team, we were asked to help set up a luxurious private estate in Hillsborough with tents, tables and supplies.
Despite the scorching hot weather that day, we helped out from 11 am to 2 pm moving huge umbrellas, arranging tables and putting linens on them, setting up wine glasses, and cleaning up the trash. We worked together with the event organizer to ensure the venue was ready by the start of the Cocktails & Couture event at 5 pm.
It was great knowing we were helping to setup for this event as donations from this gathering went to the 49ers Academy to help the students in need and keep them in school.
It was fun volunteering together with colleagues from other departments of SAP and getting to know them. I also learned about the other volunteer opportunities that other employees had signed up for. We talked about contributing more during SAP’s Month of Service and are looking forward to volunteering more in the future.
