EP: You have configured a Portal Activity Report & Page Hits are not recorded.

Background: The portal activity report mechanism is a great tool to obtain monitoring information for analyze and overview purposes across EP. In this instance you are using a configured Activity Report in the Enterprise Portal (EP) and notice the report findings are not displaying all of the pages that have been visited.

Overview:  Although the Portal pages were indeed visited, only one/two page hits are subsequently recorded and displayed in the report listing.

Version Backdrop: SAP NW 7.31 and Enterprise Portal 7.31

Reports Configuration + Revisiting Setup:  Navigate to the Service Configuration Editor. From the top-level navigation, choose System Administration -> System Configuration. In the detailed navigation, choose Service Configuration. The Service Configuration Editor is displayed. Open the configuration page for the data collection service. In the Portal Catalog, navigate to Applications > com.sap.portal/activityreport.core -> Services -> ActivityReport. Go to “Customer Activity Reports” -> “Daily Activity Report by Page”.

PAR.png

Why are the page hits not recorded? The correct Page Properties have not been defined.

How do we ensure these properties are corrected?  Open the Portal Activity Report configuration settings. Locate and find the Page Property labelled ‘User Hits’. The default value in the system is set to ‘No’ and in order for the report to capture and record Page Hits the property should be changed to ‘Yes’. Change the Property to ‘Yes’ as required and save. Reproduce the scenario and run the report again to see the new report.

      Hello Troy,

I am trying to create Portal Activity Report on SAP EP 7.4 to check no of users who logged in. I created a iView and assigned to a page, this page to a role. Now created a Portal Activity Report Iview in a different folder and added the role to Portal Activity Report Iview. I have assigned the Role to 1 Users. I am getting the following errors:

      1. The portal is currently not collecting activity data 2.The aggregator has not been executed

3.No content available for the specified period.

Could you please provide me the steps to resolve the issue. If required I will start from the begining.

I followed the link given below: Creating a Portal Activity Report Iview for monitoring Page and Iview activities - Portal - SCN Wiki

I see that you have provided solutions for many developers. Please do help me to fix my issue.

      Regards,

      Hi Raghu

I hope you are keeping well and many thanks for using the SAP Discussion Forums & also the positive feedback it is greatly appreciated.

Now from reading over your description and issue you mentioned:

Trying to create Portal Activity Report on EP 7.4 to check no of users who logged in > Created a iView and assigned to a page, this page to a role > Then created a Portal Activity Report iView in a different folder and added the role to the Portal Activity Report Iview > You have assigned the Role to 1 User and get the following errors:

Portal doesn't collect data, aggregate has not been executed and no content available for specified period.

First off it would be my pleasure to help out !  Now as you mentioned you reviewed the guidance WIKI on setting up the report for monitoring which is indeed good in this instance.

Ok now firstly regarding the three problematic issues associated with the report itself can you see anything in the default trace files ? Are there any underlying error exceptions or references noted so we can rule this out?

Just on the current report configuration that you have maintained. If you are reporting on specific iViews check the trace file and see if you see any referneces such as

      "com.sap.com/irj#com.sap.portal.activityreport.Skipped the following PCDURL: pcd:portal_content/administrator/support_role/Active_PAR#ABCXYZ"

Now you mentioned following the creation process as per the WIKI but if you spot a reference such as the above kindly ensure that the iView is in fact located within the role itself.

Now secondly just an important point to highlight here. Kindly make sure you are not using the Portal Activity Report and the ADC (Activity Data Collector) side by side i.e. at the same time as this is not recommended and I have seen this cause a wide array of issues in the past.

Now with the Portal Activity Report you should be able to achieve:

      • Information about the number of users who logged on during a specified period of time
      • Information about the users who logged on
      • Information about the number of users who visited each page and iView

Have you attempted to restart the Report Service to see if the report returns the desired behavior?

The steps to restart the service are:

      • Choose System Administration -> System Configuration -> Service Configuration -> Portal Catalog -> Applications -> Right-click com.sap.portal.activityreport.core and Administrate -> Click Restart to restart the portal activity report application

In 7.31+ Versions on many occasions by default the service of the "Activity Report" value is actually set to false. You can check the status of the activity report on this path to see if we are dealing with a small misconfiguration in this instance.

System Administration -> Content Statistics Under the "Status of Activity Report" check the indicator value of the first field: "Portal activity report activated".

In the case this field is set to False, please follow the sap help portal to enable it.

Please wait for the time you have set to close the files and let me know if it starts collecting the information.

From a high level perspective when we are dealing with Activity Report issues it is always deemed essential to ensure SAP Note: 10184379 has been followed to ensure the report is running with the latest SDA files as these are the core fixes behind multiple problematic scenarios.

Kindly update me as per your findings.

Please note I will reply to this thread as time permits! Rest assured I will provide feedback asap!

      Hello Troy!

First of all thank you so much for providing solution. I have followed the steps as you instructed. I have resolved 75% of my issue.

I still get the message No content available for the specified periodfrom System Administration--> Activity Report. How to fix this issue?

      Capture.PNG

One more thing, may be silly question, how to find the traces on portal 7.4 that you said in my previous post:

If you are reporting on specific iViews check the trace file and see if you see any referneces such as

      "com.sap.com/irj#com.sap.portal.activityreport.Skipped the following PCDURL: pcd:portal_content/administrator/support_role/Active_PAR#ABCXYZ"

Troy, could you please help me to find out the steps, where I am missing.

Note: I gave Role to 2 Users apart from Administrator

      Thanks in Advance,

      Raghu

      Hi Raghu

Many thanks for your patience and understanding and it is absolutely my pleasure no problem at all, it is good news to hear that you have made progress towards a resolution 🙂 .

Now regarding the "no content available for the specified period message" did you cross-compare both the ADC and Portal Activity Report to make sure both are not enabled? Also did you apply the latest SDA file for the PAR?

      • If you navigate to the Activity Report Aggregation Status Content Administration -> Activity Reports -> Status Of Activity Reporting section what is maintained here?

Follow the SDA file implementation as per Note 10184379 in conjunction with SAP Note: 1054145 which lists common issues should resolve this aspect.

Also to answer your query on the traces and remember no question is a silly question 😆 . Depending on what kind of trace you wish to obtain (with what severity) there are several approaches.

However in this instance the default trace is of interest and the main point of reference and walk-through here is that of

SAP KBA: 1596214 - How to find the latest default trace file of the NW AS Java right after reproducing an issue

Kindly update me as per your findings.

      Hi Troy,

Here is the screenshot. Let me know if this correct. Does the same steps work in SAP EP 7.0. In EP 7.0 I see the error message as The database contains non-aggregated data that is more than 2 hours old. Please provide me the steps for SAP EP 7.0 also

      Hi Raghu

Absolutely my pleasure & no problem at all.

Regarding the error highlight: "The database contains non-aggregated data that is more than 2 hours old".  On this mentioned exception , there is a SAP Note: 1908079 which explain how to handle this occurrence.

There is a further troubleshooting option which would entail starting the Activity reports again from scratch and the data would be collected starting from the day that you begin following the steps outlined below:

      1. Stop the Activity Report Service
      2. Clear all the WCR_* tables
      3. Apply the latest SDA (Note 1084379)
      4. Start the Activity Report Service
      5. Then check if the Activity Report functions accordingly without the error.

Also to re-reference our earlier discussions could you kindly let me know if you followed he SDA file implementation as per Note: 10184379 in conjunction with SAP Note: 1054145?

Kindly update me as per your findings.
