What are you passionate about at SAP?
I started with SAP Silicon Valley in mid July, as I just graduated with a B.A. in Human Resources, and I’m thrilled to be a part of the Learning Center of Excellence (COE) working for Manette Chadwick. I am passionate about helping drive a continuous learning culture and helping the Learning COE run simple. What’s your favorite thing about working at SAP?
It’s exciting to be fresh out of college and work on something tactical locally that has a global impact and the long-tail of what I do enables SAP to be a better company. I’m super shy but I have two strong managers/mentors who do not let me hide—I love that.
If you could have one super power, what would it be?
In addition to my current superpower of shopping and rapidly consuming Frappuccinos without fear of a brain freeze, I wish I could stretch my body so I wouldn’t be a foot shorter than Jenny Dearborn. What’s something not many people would know about you?
I am addicted to forensics murder/detective type TV shows. I think I have watched them all several times over—as a result, it keeps my husband on his toes.
| What are you passionate about at SAP?
Empowerment. Everyone should feel how liberating it is to make independent decisions and take calculated risks! I have been lucky enough to have leaders who were very hands-off. I haven’t been micromanaged at SAP–I have been trusted. And when I trip and fall, those leaders have been there to help me get back up and move forward without making it a huge deal. I am a HUGE perfectionist, so “good enough” is very hard for me. But once you embrace it, it’s very liberating and empowering. This mindset has made me a better, more confident employee. What’s your favorite thing about working at SAP?
The flexibility. I work mostly from my home–I get my job done AND have balance. Becoming a parent has put things into perspective for me, and it forces flexibility in my work life. When my son is sick, he is my priority. I’m trusted to get my job done, and leaving work for a few hours to tend to a sick child isn’t a big deal, because I still get my work done. That’s life. That’s what’s important.
If you could have one super power, what would it be?
To snap my fingers and instantly have a clean house. I have a husband and a three-year-old son, and I live in a tornado of toys, snacks, laundry, and sports equipment. Let’s just say that my house is rarely spotless. What's one bucket list item?
Get close enough to a whale in the wild that I could reach out and touch it. Whales were my favorite animal as a kid, and I wanted to become a marine biologist when I grew up. I probably wouldn’t touch it (out of respect), but to be that close in a natural setting would be amazing!
| What are you passionate about at SAP?
Helping people understand the power of HANA. HANA is an amazing tool that relatively few people know about. We need to spread the word and make this tool accessible to more people. You should learn more about it too, check out saphana.com.
What’s your favorite thing about working at SAP?
I get to work with some very smart people. I run into people all the time who have forgotten more about a topic than I would ever hope to know. I think that’s one of the untapped advantages that SAP has. There is so much knowledge here that we need to get better at applying it. If you could have one super power, what would it be?
Granting wishes. How cool would that be? Seriously, if I could walk up to someone and grant them one wish, imagine how that would change lives. Of course, I wouldn’t grant evil wishes nor wishes that do harm to someone else.
What’s something people may not know about you?
Wow, there are lot of things people don’t know about me. How about this–I’ve been supporting the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society as my charitable endeavor. I do this through the Team in Training program and through that program, I’ve had quite a few cycling stories. I’ve captured many of the stories in my blog, which I started right after my first of two back surgeries; hence the blog name “It’s Not About the Back.” Though that’s the official blog name, it’s easier to get there by going to www.steveasche.com. |
