Leading a local PMO, I am always willing to use Design Thinking in the Initiation and Planning phases of our projects. In 2014, we deep dived in Design Thinking also using the methodology to create our annual projects portfolio. Method usage brought to light a powerful tool to capture much more value ideas from employees and upper management team. This experience produced positive results giving to people from our entire Line of Business a chance to come up with ideas to meet our KPI’s and support our strategy for near future. As a consequence, scope of our projects for 2015 were much more solid than before, directly focus on Product Support global strategy.

See below the steps for portfolio creation:

All DT sessions involved on this process contains Understanding, Observe, Point-of-View, Ideate and Prototyping. Testing phase will be actually the new project which is being raised up.

I can say without a doubt that after using Design Thinking our local PMO is much more mature and able to run projects with high level of complexity.

Kind Regards,

Fábio Almeida – DT coach at SAP Labs Lating America
