THIS BLOG HAS MOVED TO THE SAP S/4HANA SECTION AS OF JANUARY 1st 2016.  NO FURTHER UPDATES WILL BE MADE IN THE Rapid Deployment Solution SECTION.

PLEASE ACCESS THE NEW BLOG HERE !

SAP Activate for SAP S/4HANA is the unique combination of ready-to-run business processes, agile project methodology, and tools for an assisted implementation.

SAP Activate provides a flexible and accelerated deployment of SAP S/4HANA, the next-generation business suite, for quick time-to-value.

SAP Activate supports you from the initial implementation to go-live and is designed for continuous innovation over time.

The assisted implementation utility of SAP Activate – often referred to as Guided Configuration – is an integral part of the product SAP S/4HANA and is provided through the “Manage Your Solution” Fiori-application. It consists of the following elements.

SAP-Activate-4.png

Configure Your Solution

Your implementation project does not start from scratch. The initial configuration of SAP S/4HANA is based on a pre-configured system providing ready-to run business processes with sample data and marks the starting point for an implementation. Based on the pre-configuration, the initial setup of SAP S/4HANA is prepared using guided configuration. Guided configuration combines our vast experience and business best practices into a friendly and easy-to‐use tool that enables customers to get the right configuration for their needs. Time- and cost intensive blueprinting phases with match to software capabilities are highly reduced. Experiencing the pre-configured system while performing a fit/gap analysis and an agile implementation project is today’s approach for an S/4HANA implementation.

/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/guidedconfig_841194.png

SAP Fiori-based, easy to use Self-Service Configuration UIs are provided alongside the phases of the implementation project in order to tailor the pre-configured processes to customer requirements. These easy-to-use UIs include only those configuration activities required for the preselected scope and are provided along the implementation phases of the project. With these UIs for example, adding a new subsidiary (company code) to the system, setting up a purchasing organization or adjusting approval thresholds in accounting is just a few clicks.

View Solution Scope

This feature provides you with a simple overview of processes that have been activated in your SAP S/4HANA solution. You can easily evaluate which business processes (scope items of the pre-configuration best practices) and which country versions are ready-to run.

/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/solutionscope_769626.png

Test Your Processes

Automated customer tests drastically reduce test – specifically regression test – efforts in the implementation project. The SAP S/4HANA solution does not only come with pre-configured business processes, but provides test automates and test scripts. With these tools and content, the test efforts (today a major portion of the efforts in an implementation project) can be reduced. You can create your own test plan, adapt customer data in the system and test the configuration changes that have been performed via the Self-Service Configuration UIs.

/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/testautomation_769625.png

Manage Your Test Processes

You can administrate the test processes in this area. Here, you decide which processes should be available in the test tool and change existing or add new test processes. Adding new process steps can be done manually or via a recording of system activities.

/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/managetest_841195.png

Migrate Your Data

Execute data migration directly out of your solution for data migration objects proposed based on the selected pre-configured business processes. As an installed base customer you can connect your SAP Business Suite system using the Landscape Transformation tool while new customers can take advantage of a template based migration approach. With the first SAP S/4HANA Cloud releases, a limited set of data migration objects is supported (focus on project services edition). Support of further objects is planned.

User training & Onboarding

End-user training and on-boarding is another key effort driver in implementation and upgrade projects. A new user training and online help concept was introduced with SAP S/4HANA. Training material, help and documentation are now directly accessible from the application itself. The xRay framework in SAP S/4HANA provides this information as an overlay on each Fiori application and gives access to information right at the point where it is needed. The key characteristic of this approach is that it is very contentcentric. The drastic simplification can be achieved because content (configuration settings, documentation, help, and learning content, etc.) gets delivered with easy to use web-based tools together with the software itself across all deployment options including the cloud.

/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/xray_774721.png

SAP Activate for SAP S/4HANA provides a central access point to learning content including “Getting Started” and “Guided Tours”. Content can be chosen by typical user roles, such as Marketing Experts, Warehouse Clerks or Accounts Receivable Accountants.

Instant access to a free trial system

It has never been easier to experience the solution, touch and feel the UI and test the processes of SAP S/4HANA. Less than a minute away from the initial landing page the users acquire access to a fully configured cloud trial system with sample data. Based on a selected role, interactive guided tours are offered, that demonstrate the benefits of S/4HANA in the trial system. The user can escape from these tours at any point in time and check out the solution in more depth.

We are relative new of S/4HANA and have just installed the sandbox. How can we access the SAP Activate to leverage the preconfigured content? Can this be accessed via a transaction code in S/4HANA?

          Hello John,

The Guided Configuration as described by Holger above is one of the Fiori tiles in the S/4HANA Cloud Editions (check his first screen shot which says ‘Cloud’). Unfortunately, it is not yet available in the version you installed, this will be available with the 1511 release of S/4HANA On-premise later this year only.

Having that said, activating the content is still done in the traditional way via Solution Builder in your case.

What I’d suggest instead is using one of our S/4HANA trials. These are available in both, the Cloud and On-premise Edition: http://www.sap.com/s4hana-trial

While the Cloud Edition does have the SAP Activate ‘Manage Your Cloud Solution’ app, the On-premise Edition is already pre-configured! 🙂

          Hope this helps,

          FRANK.

            Hi Frank,

we’ve used the S/4HANA cloud edition trial, but there was no app ‘Manage Your Own Cloud’ included. So, is there any chance to get in contact with the guided configuration?

            Thanks for your help,

            Manuel

You’re right Manuel and I’m really sorry. Just started an instance for me and of course, this trial instance already has been configured! So SAP offers with the free trials pre-configured trial editions – that means, unfortunately there is no guided configuration necessary and thus available… 😐

              Hi Manuel,

as Frank is saying the trial landscape is a shared demo environment, using Guided Configuration would potentially influence existing demo scenarios. Therefore we purposely didn’t make it available.

As mentioned in my blog, Guided Configuration will be fully made available with the November release of SAP S/4HANA (also referred to as the 1511 version) for cloud and on-premise, including the simplifcations for Finance and Logistics.

The best was to experience it today is visiting us @TechEd Las Vegas, October 19th, where we’ll share hands-on demos at our pod. I’ll post some more details on the various educational sessions later this week.

              Best regards

              Holger

To my opinion Release 1511 is not ready to usefully apply for a New Implementation (On premise)

To use SAP Activate is only possible in combination with BestPractice preconfigured Scenarios.

But for Release 1511, there are only very few scenarios available, so that this cannot really called a model company. The available scenarios might at the best cover only 25% of needed scenarios for a manufacturing company. So the missing 75% scenarios will have to be developed in a design based manner.

At least this is, what appears to me talking to involved experts from development.

I think, the strategie is great and once we can deliver a number of scenarios, which are comparable to the classic BestPractices (including Industrie specific ones) this will be a great approach for implementtion projects.

I am looking forward to further improvements and demo- and playsystems with easy to follow demoscenarios 🙂

    Best regards

    Ute

      Hi Ute,

it’s good to see your appreciation of the product strategy we’ve taken with this approach, this was highly request by customers and partners for a while now. Yes, indeed we remodelled the complete set of foundational processes based on the new SAP S/4HANA codeline. We provide for the enterprise cloud a coverage of roughly 65 pre-configured processes.

Does this cover all customer needs? Well, very likely not. However, the November release of SAP S/4HANA marks the starting point, much more to come over the next releases. Based on this starting point customers can still grow and extend, using expert configuration. We’re also working on side-by-side scenrios, we already offer cloud integration in November.

So I fully disagree to your view that we cannot run new implemtation scenarions on premise, it’s just the opposite.

Our model company does not only include preconfigured business processes, it much more includes fully blown enterprise structures for on-premise and cloud, including finance, logistics, sales and services structures together with a complete set of master data. This is all documented as part of our documentation bill-of-material. For your reference I also posted the structure of the on-premise enterprise structure to the blog.

      Best regards

In the presentation above I find 52 processes, so I assume, that the presentation is not up to date, yet. Or might the difference depend on, that there is already more available in the public cloud edition? Can you also tell me, how to access structure of the on-premise enterprise, that you posted. Sorry, but I cannot find it 🙁 Regards Ute

    Hi all,

We have a S4HANA 1511 on-premise system builtup in Demo Cloud, but unfortuantely, quite limited resources could be found in SCN for the configuration, especially the Guided Configuration, I know it should represent via a fiori app called “Managed Your Solutions”, however it’s not showed on our the user role that we had, so can anyone could help to let us know which role needed to be added to the GW server to have this app there? Or is there any comprehensive configuration guide that we could refer to for the S4HANA system.

Any help will be highly appreciated!

        Hi Holger,

Thanks for that! And it works, now I can see it.

But apprently, it’s not well configured, and we need to check this deeper.

        Thanks and best regards!

            Hi Holger,

I read “Administration Guide for the Implementation of SAP S/4HANA On-Premise Edition (1511)”. The Guided configuration and “Manage Your Solution” Fiori-apps are intended to Best practice (US and DE). Is this correct?

Is it possible to use the Guided configuration and “Manage Your Solution” Fiori-apps for standard implementation?

            Best regards,

            Takahito

              Hi Tikahito,

this is correct. “Manage Your Solution” SAP Fiori app let’s you control the activated scope of SAP Best Practices within the S/4HANA product.

I’m not sure I understand “standard implementation”, could you please explain.

              Best regards

                Hi Holger,

“standard implementation” means implementation without best practice.

Does S/4HANA 1511 on-premise edition (without best practice addon US or DE) include the guided configuration and “Manage Your Solution” Fiori-apps?

                Best regards,

                Takahito

        Dear Holger

Thanks for the reply.Request you to clarify following points for the awaited release

        1. SAP Activate  will be available only through Fiori app “Manage your solution”. Incase no kindly provide other methods

2.We need to have Fiori Landscape inplace or there will be some workaround so that it  can be executed  using only existing SAP GUI Framework (through some Tcode)

3.Also some guide so that we can prepare for  required Fiori landscape till that time.

        Thanking you in advance!!

    Dear Holger,

where do I find information on the minimum System Requirements for Solution Manager to integrate with Solution Builder, Manage your Solution and Expert Configuration?

I am sure, we highly recommend our customers to use the solution manager also for new implementations on S/4HANA, right?

We are working on a BID for a new implementation on S/4HANA using SAP Activate and BestPractice Baseline 🙂

Thanks a lot for your help!

      Hi Ute,

      – Solution Manager 7.1 content for SAP S/4HANA on-premise 1511 for localizations DE and US is already available today. As you know we deliver this content as SAP Solution Manager content add-on (ST-RDS 100)

      – Solution Manager 7.2 will provide major new functionality that we will also leverage in the context of SAP Activate

      – With Solution Manager 7.2 SAP Best Practices will become the reference business content – Solution Manager provides tighter integration of these SAP Best Practice, e.g.

      – initial load: complete SAP Best Practices documentation can be loaded via OCR/OCD interface (available with ramp-up of SM7.2)

      – delta load/data exchange between Solution Manager and Solution Builder is planned for the next versions of SolMan 7.2

      – Process diagrams delivered with SAP Best Practices and modelled with PowerDesigner can be viewed and adopted with SolMan 7.2

      Hope this helps

Hi Holger – very nice documentation indeed.

I was looking for references on how to integrate with QAS set of tools: Quality Center, TAO, TDMS… Wonder if Activate have this defined.

Another point is around Application Security/Security Testing. Security is becoming top of our agenda with most customers. Could you point to refrences to this topic in Activate.

    Thank you,

    Mikhail
