How-to: Virus Scan Interface

Dear readers,

welcome to the first “how-to” post about setting up the virus scan interface. If you have proposals for new “How-to” articles, feel free to contact me. 🙂

Whenever there are changing calls from the SAP TM collaboration portal to the SAP TM back-end system, the system checks the data for viruses. If the virus scan interface is not correctly set up, you get an error like this (example for accepting a freight RFQ):

“Error while accepting freight request for quotation 5100000147 (No default virus profile active or found. Please check the offical guide.)”

The admin guide for the collaboration portal provides the following information:

“All changing calls to SAP Gateway (such as sending freight quotations, or uploading attachments) require the configuration of the virus scan interface.

For more information, see SAP Library for SAP Gateway on SAP Help Portal at help.sap.com/nwgateway20 -> Application Help -> Support Package Stack 09 -> SAP NetWeaver Gateway -> SAP NetWeaver Gateway Security Guide -> Data Protection and Privacy -> Virus Scan.”

For productive use of the collaboration portal, we clearly recommend to correctly set up the virus scan interface and enable it for scanning. If you follow the link to the documentation, you are provided with where to maintain the virus scan profile:

“In the SAP NetWeaver Gateway framework virus scanning is available for incoming update and create requests for SAP NetWeaver Gateway services.

The activity to maintain profiles for virus check is available in the SAP NetWeaver Gateway implementation guide (IMG). In transaction SPRO open the SAP Reference IMG and navigate to -> SAP NetWeaver -> Gateway -> OData Channel -> Administration -> General Settings -> Define Virus Scan Profiles.”

If you haven’t created a virus scan profile before, you are also pointed to additional ressources.

In the rare case of not using the collaboration portal productively, you can completely deactivate it:

“If in exceptional circumstances you want to deactivate the virus scan (for example, if other quality checks are implemented), start the SAP Customizing Implementation Guide (transaction SPRO) and choose -> SAP NetWeaver -> Gateway -> OData Channel -> Administration -> General Settings -> Define Virus Scan Profiles. On the screen SAP Gateway Virus Scan Profile Configuration, select the checkbox Virus Scan Switched Off and select Execute. After the virus scan has been deactivated, the information message Virus scanning is not active is displayed. If you start this activity and the virus scan is currently deactivated, the checkbox is selected and a minus sign is displayed in the Virus Scan Profile field. To prevent issues, you are recommended to always have the virus scan activated.”
