SAP UX – Which solution to choose?

User Experience: Fiori vs. Personas

SAP is all about Fiori and its new user interface based on HTML5. It adapts to all platforms of all sizes and shouts loudly SAP’s vision for the future: “RUN SIMPLE”. The new platform S/4HANA use the Fiori user interface. So, we can see what SAP foresees for this long-term solution.

However, the SAP portfolio for the user experience does not stop there. SAP’s PERSONAS is also part of the strategy to simplify and reinvent the interaction between users and the SAP system. Fiori offers a whole new user experience via a simplified interface, which is redone from scratch. Personas is rather using standard SAP transactions and reshaping the way they are presented, applying modifications on each ABAP screen’s content.

Here are the main principles of each solution:

Keep in mind: Fiori and Personas work together to enhance user experience. They are 2 complimentary solutions to help your organization to gain productivity and increase user adoption.

Now, what solution should you choose? Fiori or Personas?

Here’s the recommended approach:

If you already have a Fiori application, whether in whole or in part, or if mobility is a priority for you, the application is well suited to adequately meet your needs.

If your goal is to simplify basic screens of SAP transactions being frequently used for a specific purpose, Personas effectively meet your expectations and especially those of users.

When Personas meet Fiori

SAP confirmed with the release of version 3.0 that it’s now possible to use Personas modified screens using the standard Fiori “Launchpad”. SAP enables you to deploy your Personas screen variants, the “Flavors” for Fiori. You can create Fiori applications executing SAP transactions with your particular flavor. In this manner, it is possible to quickly respond to simplified access requirements for a particular purpose. To do this, SAP recommends the following:

  1. Create one Fiori app (tile) per activity and not per transaction (i.e.: modifying the client address);
  2. Combine many transactions to create a single app using scripting features;
  3. Create one Fiori Theme in Personnas to replicate your theme in Fiori;
  4. Keep it simple! Aim to execute one single taks per Fiori app rather than combining many activities.

With these two complementary solutions, SAP offers a multitude of possibilities to simplify the lives of users and enable them to perform their daily tasks without constraints of use.
