Getting Familiar with SAP Lumira 1.27 BW Connectivity
First, thanks goes to SAP’s Paul Smith for writing Auto-Update Changes in SAP Lumira 1.27
Following his steps, I was able to update Lumira Desktop to 1.27 from SAP Store.
As Eric Yew says SAP Lumira on BW (Part 1) you need to install an extension for BW, similar to the Universe Query Panel extension.
Go to File > Extensions
In Extension Manager select the Install icon
Then restart Lumira Desktop
I selected the Download from Business Warehouse and selected local connections. No issues so far..
I search for my BEx Query
All my variables are optional so I move to the next screen
I select the measures and dimensions for Lumira as shown above; leaving behind the WBS extension
So before this release with a BEx query I could only see the Visualize room; now I see all 4 – Prepare, Visualize, Compose, Share
Because I am lazy, I always select the related visualizations first
The compose room is different; there is no longer the InfoGraphic/Report selection. I select blank.
Above is a simple story
I can share the BEx query story to Lumira Cloud
This is how it looks on Lumira Cloud. So it is end to end from selecting the BEx query to sharing the story.
Hi,
Any idea about what the maximum record limit is for the BW query when using this BW connection?
/Karri
Karri - I think that would depend on the RAM on your machine and the backend safety belt settings. I haven't tried this with large amounts of data
Hi Tammy,
Yeah, my thoughts exactly. I'm just wondering since I was testing this out and after getting an error about the safety belt settings, I checked from the RSADMIN table what had been inputted. However, in this system the BICS_DA_RESULT_SET_LIMIT_DEF and _MAX values are missing. Since it seems there are no safety limits, I guess I shouldn't be getting an error.
But I guess I'll have to bother the BASIS guys about the RAM/memory params... 😆
/Karri
Hi,
Usually BASIS admins implement a Netweaver 'safety belt' to restrict the data fetch on the ABAP OLAP side - that will still apply. (typically 1M cells) A BEx query also has a design limit of 50 query objects when accessed using BICS API.
After that, the Lumira Desktop solution does have documented warnings about "number of cells retrieved" over 30M cells (I.e. rows x cols), if memory serves me correctly.
Finally, when rendering this via BIPlatform addon, there are additional sizing requirements that will need to be undertaken on the BIPlatform side. see Lumira sizing guide for that
regards,
H
Hi,
Can the data pulled using the BW connector (from BEx query) be refreshed or Is it just a one time download ?
Please advise
Thanks
It can be refreshed; depends on deployment platform. Also 1.27 is very old version
Hi Tammy
Thanks for your reply.
We are using version 1.31.7
will that be able to refresh data when i pull it using BEx query from BW
Thanks
