On Monday June 15, 2015 the SAP University Alliances team welcomed American students from summer school at Heilbronn University and their supervisors Tanja Schöffski, Peter Wagner and, Kathrin Köster (Click here to visit Heilbronn University on Facebook).
Sabrina Dick, Head of HRBP & Diversity Office EMEA, welcomed the students to SAP and introduced Dr. Elmar Dorner from the SAP Research Group. Elmar gave a 45 minutes presentation showcasing the work of the SAP Innovation Center Network and what their purpose is. The students were impressed to see how much effort SAP puts into innovation topics in collaboration with customers, universities, but also startup companies.
Elmar explained the methodology very well using some easy-to-understand examples and the students had some questions around the whole topic.
After that Sabrina Dick gave an overview of her career path at SAP. She highlighted also the special SAP culture, diversity and open communication and stressed how unique this is for a global player. Again, the students were interested and asked a questions.
Next was the visit of the next-generation SAP Inspiration Pavilion, where you can learn more about the history of SAP and experience firsthand the manifold faces of Big Data. The students got to know how data is affecting our lives today and uncovered its enormous potential for the future.
The last program point was the visit at SAP d-shop, ‘The Developer’s Workshop’ which is a global grassroots program that brings IoT technologies closer to the visitors. The technologies covered include electronic platforms for building connected devices such as Arduino, Raspberry Pi and BeagleBone, as well as 3D printers, wearable devices, augmented reality and virtual reality devices, robotics and sensor network.

The second group from Miami University of Ohio consisting of 14 students and 2 attendants, Mr. Benamati Skip and Ms. Morena Luisi, visited SAP’s Headquarters on Wednesday June 18, 2015.
First of all, Raimund Gross was holding an impressing speech about ‘Winning Solheim CUP- Golf Analytics’. In 2015, the Solheim Cup will be held in St. Leon-Rot. As the most prestigious team tournament in women’s golf, the Solheim Cup is the ladies’ counterpart to the Ryder Cup. The U.S. and Europe will both send their 12 best female golfers to compete against each other. SAP is supporting the event as a technology partner, leveraging its core competencies to enable the golf experience to be enjoyed digitally. The presentation showed what was built and how the project was executed.
The second program point was the exhibition of the FESTO production line/Industry 4.0, where the group got an inside into the factory of the future. The Open Integrated Factory controls itself using SAP technology. Business management and manufacturing IT systems are integrated seamlessly, from the ERP system to individual sensors. That means customized products can be manufactured at the same rate as mass-market items.
This not only brings much better insight and transparency into the actual situation on the shop floor – it also allows much more timely and informed decisions than in the past. A network of intelligent systems, products and machines is able to exchange information and makes decisions more and more autonomously. This increases the efficiency and flexibility on the shop floor and ultimately the degree of automation in modern parts.
Finally, the group visited the SAP Inspiration Pavilion and the d-shop as well as the first group.
