Personalized medicine – COPE with Cancer

Technology is reshaping medicine; and personalized patient treatment is now made possible by genetic sequencing and the processing power
of technologies such as SAP HANA.  SAP has taken the initiative in 2014 to make
state-of-the-art genetic sequencing available to employees fighting cancer and has teamed up with MolecularHealth, one of the showcased organizations at SAPPHIRENOW 2015 who won the HANA Innovation Award, to develop the Corporate Oncology Program for Employees (COPE) for SAP employees.  The program was first rolled out in 2014 in the U.S. and Germany, and further expansion in other countries is expected.

COPE includes free and confidential access to TreatmentMAPTM for eligible SAP employees fighting cancer.  MolecularHealth’s
TreatmentMAPTM delivers a personalized tumor analysis and interpretation based on the patient‘s genetic profile and medical history. The
individual tumor genome of a patient is compared with the latest biomedical and clinical knowledge, and enormous amounts of data are processed with the help of the SAP HANA platform. The treating physician then gets a report including the results of the analysis outlining targeted therapy options and treatment recommendations to derive a more personalized, efficient and safer treatment for the patient, aiming for better results with fewer side effects.

See this personal story of an SAP employee sharing his challenging journey with cancer, and how the individualized results obtained from COPE give him confidence and hope.
