Years of Experience Vs Real Experience

This is just a thought surfaced while dealing with many SAP consultants. I am sure everyone has thought about this sometime in their career. Just putting this forward.
I have been working in SAP since the start of my career. I feel lucky to start my career in SAP which is like writing something fresh in mind at childhood or writing something on a new slate. ABAP becomes the primary language for comaprison when learning anything new. On the downside, as ABAP is a 4th generation language when compared to basic languages like C one does not really experience the full concept of Programming language. Its like driving premium cars without starting from low segment cars.
Feeling proud working on the 4th generation langauge and coding with the understandable keywords one can easily understand what they are coding and at the same time easily interpreted by layman. As one keep moving into mutliple projects, locations, companies and industries the knowledge base increases overtime. Confidence level increases exponentially along with the number of years worked in SAP. However, one crucial point we should not miss is, spectrum of projects we work. More diversified and niche projects will definitely place you in good position. Not everyone gets a chance to work on all excellent projects. I would like to highlight one point here, the more challenging work you take better positioned you are in the market. Let me take an example, a person who has worked on a support project with less number tickets turn around for 4 years can easily be overtaken in knowledge by a person who has worked in 4 different implementation or Upgrade projects in 4 years. At the same time two members from the same project may have different experience depending on the proactive work they have taken when compared to a person who goes with the flow. This is what is tested in the interviews to see how much real experience you have gained in your years of experience. Your Years of experience should be really the real years of experience.
