How to make your SAP Lumira Charts more interesting for free

To the most interesting teacher ever Tony de Thomasis

In this blog I will be discussing how you can make SAP Lumira visualizations look more interesting by using Esri Geo Maps instead of default Lumira maps. And Yes! It is totally free. SAP Lumira is one of the useful tools which I learned in Victoria University course BCO6181

Ingredients needed for this tutorial are:

Workshop

To start off, upload dataset on to SAP Lumira, in this tutorial we are using dataset “Key Government Figures – Nepal Earthquake.xlsx” available from above mentioned link. Use Tot_Deaths as a measure and convert the dimension ‘District’ into geographical hierarchy by names

/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/1_716867.png

On next screen, in ‘Sub-Region’ field, select ‘District’ and in Country field select None. The subsequent screen gives us error showing 71 locations were not found

/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/3_716868.png

We received this error because the Lumira built-in Navteq libraries only include locations with population above 100,000. To solve this issue I manually solved each location for its longitude and latitude values using website http://www.latlong.net/ and updated my excel sheet

/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/4_716869.png

Load the updated excel sheet on Lumira again. Convert ‘DISTRICT’ into geographical hierarchy by longitude and latitude

/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/5_716876.png

On the next screen select ‘Longitude’ dimension in Longitude field and ‘Latitude’ dimension in Latitude field and select Sub-Region in Geographical Level Field

/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/6_716878.png

Select Finish on next screen. Now if you select the newly created geographical hierarchy ‘DISTRICT_LongLat’ as dimension and Tot_Death as measure and select default Geo Bubble Chart from the charts option, the resulting graph will look like this

/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/7_716879.png

As we can see the above chart is not much detailed, we will try to introduce Esri Maps

Esri Maps Workshop

To use Esri Maps in Lumira you don’t need to download or install anything, just go to Esri.com and signup for a free trial account. Come back to your SAP Lumira Lumira, go to File > Preferences > Geo Map Service and sign in with your Esri credentials

/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/8_716881.png

Now on your SAP Lumira screen, click on Geographical Charts option and select ‘Geo Map’.

/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/9_716883.png

The Esri Map will be loaded automatically. Now select Tot_Deaths as measure and location by longitude and latitude as dimension. the resulting chart looks like this

/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/10_716884.png

As we can see the resulting chart is much more detailed and looks way better than the default one

In this blog we have discussed

  • Where to download SAP lumira and a simple tutorial on using maps
  • How to fix maps for smaller areas not showing on maps i.e. locations with population less than 100,000 people by using latitude and longitude
  • And lastly, how to integrate Esri Geo Maps with SAP Lumira

I just downloaded the Lumira trial and the Geo Map Preferences are not displayed.  Is there something more that needs to be done to access the Esri Mapping capabilities within the trial - or do you need a full Lumira licence?

I think it's incorrect to put "for free" in the title. It's not free, it's trial for only 1 month.

@ Alexey ... Yup you are correct ..it's not free forever .. it's trial for a month

@ Tom .... Sorry for responding late.. When I wrote this weblog I did everything on trial version . . my trial version has expired now. ..let me download it again and check it for you
