We have recently discovered a problem that may affect you if you are planning to export your SAP system at release level 7.40 or perform maintenance operations using the Software Update Manager (SUM) to a target release of 7.40. The problem affects systems running with kernel release 7.41, patch level 201 and higher, or kernel release 7.42, patch level 101 or higher. In some cases, when tables contained empty columns of LOB data types, the data export was incomplete and the import failed later on. This problem has been described in SAP Note 2159090.

If you are not planning to export or update your SAP system, nothing needs to be done. Otherwise, update the database library (DBSL) using the latest patch on the SAP software dowload center:

  • SAP kernel release 7.42: DBSL patch level 118 (or higher)
  • SAP kernel release 7.41: DBSL patch level 220 (or higher)

The manual workaround decribed in SAP Note 2159090 is obsolete when using the latest DBSL patch.

Update 15th of July, 2015:
A similar export issue occurred lately for parallel transports using R3trans on IBM i 7.2. For more information, see SAP Note 2181071.

To prepare your OS release IBM i 7.2 for an update or upgrade implement the following PTFs:

  • MF60355
  • MF60356

Please note that this additional problem does not only affect kernel releases 7.4x, but also kernel releases 7.2x.
