Through the first week of May in Orlando, Florida, software giant SAP showcased current and future solutions targeted to improve Industries, Lines of Businesses and Advanced Technology applications.  While the primary focal point of the event was the developments in Big Data applications and platforms to Support SAP HANA, what became quickly clear was the actual client applications and the utilization of HANA in client engagements garnered the most interest.

Among industries receiving more and more pronounced attention within SAP was Higher Education and Research.

Beginning with advance SAPPHIRE meetings with technology industry analysts including Gartner, IDC, Forrester, and Ovum, the Weill Cornel Medical College was one of only 4 clients featured on a SAP Client Innovation panel.  The Ivy League school was noted as an early adopter of SAP HANA.  Further, the CIO of Weill Cornell outlined the current applications of HANA the College is utilizing to improve Financial management, but perhaps more importantly, how the school is planning to leverage the advanced Big Data technologies of HANA and S/4HANA platform for medical research and insights into treatment.

In addition, La Trobe University was highlighted at SAPPHIRE NOW as a Global reference client for SAP.  La Trobe University is located in Melbourne Australia with a student population of over 35,000.  La Trobe was recognized at Sapphire Now as the first client to contract with SAP for the new Simple Finance application.  In addition, La Trobe was noted as a Lighthouse client for the groundbreaking implementation of the SuccessFactors suite for human capital management.

The SAP focus on Higher Education and Research with SAP continues through 2015 and into 2016, as the industry is among those few targeted for leading investment and solution development in SAP Simple Finance and SAP Simple Logistics.

SAP had over 100 Higher Education and Research clients in attendance at SAPPHIRE NOW.  Together with key partners, SAP showcased important new developments for co-innovation with leading Universities in the advancement of student information systems, and the utilization of Mobility to support Education administrators, faculty and staff.
