Configuring and using the Business Card Scanner in SAP Cloud for Customer for the iPhone
This document outlines how to configure and use the Business Card Scanner functionality available with the C4C SaaS offering from SAP.
To setup Business Card scanner you need to first obtain the license key from ABBYY.
Visit http://cloud.ocrsdk.com for more details.
You will receive an e-mail from ABBYY with Application Name & password.
Then as a Key User login to Cloud for customer, navigate to Administrator Mash-up Web services
You will find a pre-delivered web service called “Business Card Scanner Service” select that and maintain the API Key, i.e basic_username = <Application Name>, basic_password = <password> (as provided by ABBYY via the email outlined above)
Please see the end to end lead capture via business card scanning flow outlined in a series of screenshots below:
Step 1: Open the Cloud for Customer app on the iPhone and navigate to Leads
Step 2: Once the leads are listed, touch the screen on the top right graphic
Step 3: Select the Scan menu to activate the iPhone camera
Step 4: Set the business card on a flat surface and center it in the frame offered for scanning the business card with steady hands
Step 5: Take a satisfactory photo and touch use to further process the operation
Step 6: C4C sends the scan to ABBYY
Step 7: ABBYY processes the image for information recognition
Step 8: ABBYY sends back the information extracted from the image
Step 9: Touch Done to update and save the information
Step 10: You can now see the business card information reflected as a new lead in C4C via the iPhone app
We hope you enjoy this convenient functionality offered up with SAP Cloud for Customer and capture leads Simply and get to Engage Your Customers Like Never Before.
Thank you.
Thanks for the great info!
@Pushkar,
Is the card scanner functionality supported on devices others than APPLE? Like Android/Windows/Blackberry? I have tried on Android device, it works up to the point of scanning & showing the data in correct format but once I save & close it, it gives some error (which flashes for a second, so could not read it) & then when I go to the LEADS, I cannot find the scanned Lead into it, neither on Mobile nor on Laptop version.
Please feedback.
Thanks
Ankur
It works on the Android phone as well. I am in the process of creating a similar writeup for the Android phone with screenshots. Stay tuned for the same.
Thank you.
Check out the Android Phone version of the flow as outlined at Configuring and using the Business Card Scanner in SAP Cloud for Customer for the Android Phone
Thank you.
In case you are still running into an error, then it might be time to file an incident regarding the matter. Thank you.
Very useful article Pushkar, thanks.
Could you let me know whether the solution would determine if the customer and the person on the card already exist in C4C and if so create a lead against the existing customer and person? Cheers.
Hi Pushkar, thank you for the description. Unfortunatelly we are always receiving error 401 when we try to perform a scan. Even after waiting hours/days after changing the credentials. Any clue?
Best Regards
Florian
Hi Pushkar,
this is working with the app Cloud4Cust but not with Cloud4CustEx. I guess this is an error, correct?

Thanks Pushkar for sharing and working for us.
Do we have similar functionality to create Contacts?
Hi Pushkar,
thanks for the very useful article.
Do you know if it's planned to implement the functionality into the Apps for iPad and Android Tablets?
Best regards,
Roberto
Hello,
I'd like to know if somebody has some similar problems with the mapping street+city to C4C and how they solved it?
Furthermore the app is struggeling with Android since 1605, appearing some error message: "Error appeared: Attempt to get length of null array."
Regards.
Chris
Hello,
great guide.
However we are having an error when scanning business cards.
After clicking on Use Photo, we get this error:
The operation couldn't be completed. (NSURLErrorDomain error -1012.)
Have anyone encountered such error?
Please note we haven't purchased the license from Abbyy yet. We have just registered and obtained the password.
Thank you
Hi,
I am also encountered this issue. Do you get some solution for this?
Thanks & Regards,
Frankie
For me a soft reset of an iPad worked. Press sleep + home buttons for several seconds. After the reset, try the scanner again. If this won't work, then there are some other methods you can find here:

Hello
Is there also an integration to SAP Business ByDesign?
Or do you know any other card scanner that works with SAP Business ByDesign?
Thanks and best regards
