What’s New In HANA Cloud Platform – The SAPPHIRE NOW Announcements
As SAPPHIRE NOW kicks off in Orlando this week, SAP is announcing major new capabilities, partners, apps, and awards on HANA Cloud Platform and we’d like to bring you a summary of some of the major new capabilities here:
Known as IoT Services, this official new foray into IoT support from SAP signals HCP as an IoT application development platform. At its core, it’s a set of two services: 1) Remote Device Management Service (RDMS), and 2) Message Management Service (MMS):
- RDMS allows you to manage the device lifecycle with features like secure onboarding, remote configuration, and receiving device status information
- MMS helps you to collect data from machines and sensors and store it in the HCP persistence layer from which an application can then retrieve the data
In addition, you’ll find a new GUI in the HANA Cloud Platform called the Internet of Things Services Cockpit which helps you interact with RDMS to onboard new devices.
Altogether, the IoT Services release supports device and data management for IoT application scenarios, simplifying the deployment of lightweight IoT cloud applications. You can find IoT services available for testing in the HCP trial landscape, try it out today following this quick start, check out the documentation online at https://help.hana.ondemand.com/iot, and follow the IoT community here on SCN for more information.
After forging new markets with the SuccessFactors HCM Solutions, HR extensions, and on-premise SAP Business Suite extensions, SAP expands the HCP extension space with the following new extension tracks:
- SAP Jam — for extensions in the social collaboration space
- SAP Cloud for Customer — for extensions for both Cloud for Sales and Cloud for Service
- S/4HANA — leveraging the power of Fiori and the new capabilities the suite offers
Stay tuned for more updates in this space.
Also new in the platform is the Gamification Service, which lets you introduce game mechanics into enterprise applications with a Web API, easy-to-use SAPUI5 widgets, and a Gamification Workbench. You can try it out today by following this quick start. Read the documentation here.
