Although I have been in the SAP realm for 20 years, I have never been to a SAPPHIRE event. I am excited to say that I am ready to attend my first one this week here in sunny Orlando, Florida. I remember my first SAP conference experience back in the early 90’s, I asked my boss if I could go to an SAP event, and she said there was no money in the budget. However, I found out if you applied to be a speaker you could get free attendance, so I gave it a shot.

It was an ASUG event in Florida, and I was selected to speak on the SAP Query (back then it was known as the ABAP Query). I remember I wrote every word that I intended to say down on a very long script I practiced for days on end before arriving. For the first 5 minutes of my first SAP presentation, I did not look up from my script even once, but as I began talking about the technology I realized that I knew what I was talking about. My only goal was to share that with the audience so that they could learn and with that I tucked away my script and just started sharing. Since then I have spoken at over a dozen ASUG events and over 25 WIS SAPinsider events.

As this is my first SAPPHIRE, I feel like that nervous kid again, and although I am not speaking I am delighted to be attending as part of the SAP Mentor program. I always viewed the SAP Mentors as Rock Stars, and I am delighted to be a part of that team. As a first time attendee, I went online and built my agenda, which is full of mostly HCM and Analytics sessions. I hope to be able to attend as many educational sessions as I can, meet with customers, partners and old friends and learn more about the mentor culture. If you are at SAPPHIRE, please feel free to say hi and tell me about your experiences with SAP.
