With the SAP IT Summit Austria that happened from April 21st-22nd, 2015 SAP Austria merged two events. The SAP Business Forum and the SAP CCoE Forum ran at the same time under one event. People had great opportunities to network and to experience many SAP solutions in a great location.
More than 500 participants joined this perfectly organized event with great content.
The SAP HANA Cloud Platform had one slot in one of the four theaters and the number of people who joined my presentation showed me that there is a lot of interest around SAP’s Platform-as-a-Service offering.
After the presentation we offered an IoT workshop. The Internet of Things workshop of the summit was around using a Raspberry Pi to send sensor data to the SAP HANA Cloud Platform and we had 15 participants eager to learn how to accomplish the task.
As a basis for the workshop we’ve used the blog post series around using a Raspberry Pi on SAP HANA Cloud Platform. My two colleagues Pierre Wagner and Walter Müller from SAP Austria in Vienna took care of the complete hardware setup at the event. In addition to that they’ve shown how to install SQL Anywhere on the Raspberry Pi and persist the sensor data on the Raspberry Pi. In the last part of the workshop participants were also shown how to use SAP Lumira to run some analytics on the collected data.
By the end of the workshop all participants had their Raspberry Pi sending the temperature data coming from the connected sensor to their free developer accounts on the SAP HANA Cloud Platform.
In case you are located in Austria or somewhere nearby I recommend you to visit a repetition of the workshop on June 26th or September 24th, 2015 in Vienna run by Pierre. It is certainly worth visiting it.
