New Generic Template Design Studio 1.4 SP2

Following up from 1.4 Adhoc Template – search query I noticed today that in SP2 of Design Studio there is a new Generic template.  See below.

First create a new application and select Generic Analysis Template

Figure 2

Let’s say I do nothing except execute the application locally.  I get a message (shown above) that tells me to enter the XSYSTEM and XQUERY – XSYSTEM is the system ID on your SAP Gui and XQUERY is the BEx query.  Once I do that, I see success, shown below:

Figure 3 shows the cross tab and the familiar navigation panel.

Figure 4

I click the chart shown in the upper right corner.  I hope up the panel in the middle and more chart options are shown.

Figure 5 shows the result of selecting a different chart type.

Figure 6

Figure 6 shows the result when I click “Back to Start” – similar to BEx.

Figure 7 shows the familiar Information screen

Notice I didn’t do any scripting; I simply entered the system and the BEx query.  This could be the start of self-service for the business analyst using Design Studio, without any IT involvement.

      Hi Tammy,

Thanks for the write-up.  I notice that the Information dialogue window shows the Current User as "UNKNOWN".  Do you know if there is a reason for this?

      Mustafa.

Hi Mustafa - you have a keen eye.  I didn't notice that.  I suspect it is a script issue with the template.  I will check next time I use it.

      nice writeup,

regarding the UNKNOWN , my guess is that you ran the application locally. We noticed the same. when you run the report on BW portal it should be ok.

      best regards,

      Jeroen

Thanks for confirming, Jeroen.  I had a suspicion that might be the case.

      Regards,

      Mustafa.
