New mobile technology will transform the Oil & Gas industry
The way of working for Oil &Gas workers is about to change; today, when an oil & gas worker leaves their workshop or control room for the plant, all the information he/she needs is in their head or on paper. Plus, in most cases any readings or notes taken in the plant will probably be on paper.
Up until now the computing devices that could be taken into the plant where old, with very limited screen sizes, and about the size and weight of a house-brick!
That is all about to change with the new intrinsically safe* mobile devices which run the latest Android software. With these more powerful devices and new software, Oil & Gas can catch up with other industries.
The diagram shows one of the new intrinsically safe devices as a worker’s tool for accessing real-time plant data and drawings, including 3D virtual models, mobile applications for work-management and using Bluetooth to connect to barcode and RFID readers, noise-cancelling headsets and other devices.
Glossary. Intrinsic safety* is a protection technique for safe operation of electrical equipment in hazardous areas.
