This was an ASUG webcast last week that Ina Felsheim, who is our ASUG SAP point of contact.
You can watch General Lumira capabilities here:
Lumira includes merging with multiple data sources, with “Self-service way instead of IT way”
Agile visualization, self-service mode of creating compelling stories, change business as a result of visualizations you create
So much is spent from preparing data, that Lumira is to ease time in acquiring, blending, merge with personal files
Lumira Extensions are on GitHub

Figure 1 shows that Lumira can acquire with desktop or Cloud, share with Lumira Server
Lumira Server for HANA – uses HANA as its in-memory engine – high volume, lots of users, need powerful database engine – Lumira server runs on HANA – it is mobile, Fiori and BI-ready
Lumira Edge – just released this quarter
- How have server but smaller deployment for smaller teams
- Not require HANA
Figure 2: Source: SAP
Figure 2 shows the status of Lumira Server. For the BI platform it will allow connect to all information you already have in BI platform – security, user groups
Figure 3: Source: SAP
Lumira Edge is there “because not everyone has bought HANA”.
It is easy to install and uses commodity hardware
You create visualizations on desktop and publish to Edge
Figure 4: Source: SAP
Lumira Edge installs in less than 15 minutes
Figure 5: Source: SAP
Figure 5 shows the in-memory engine is embedded in Team Server
Trusted data discovery is not only using spreadsheets to do agile visualizations but also access curated sources like BW, HANA, universe with personal sources
A standalone team does not need enterprise governance

Figure 6 shows the operating system is Windows and English only
Figure 7: Source: SAP
If you need refresh data sources like universes, then the Edge edition is not for you
Figure 8: Source: SAP
You can edit and view stories right online in browser from the Edge edition

Using connection details you store in preferences, you can share your file to the Edge server as shown in Figure 9.
Connect to BI Platform

Question & Answer
________________________________________________________________
Q: We are licensed for BW on HANA. We are standing up our HANA environment. We intend to install Lumira directly on the HANA database. We have Business Object 4.1 and would like to integrate it with Lumira. Should we be looking at Lumira Server for BI?
A: If you have big HANA investment stick with Lumira Server – there is a release Q3 to make connectivity simpler
________________________________________________________________
Q: Can a company leverage all three of these deployment types… i.e. are there licensing options to support using all three within a large enterprise?
A: It depends – because not through launching through BI platform – the intention is to leverage add-on Edge – need to finalize‑
________________________________________________________________
Q: Is there a Prepare room for Edge Portal?
A: No
________________________________________________________________
Q: I do not recall when she said Lumira Server for BI Platform will be released for general availability. Is that date published?
A: Planned for customer validation March – April – GA is TBD
________________________________________________________________
Q: Could you clarify one slide comparing Lumira edge versus Lumira Server: Lumira edge server can only connect to BI edge ? or is the BI platform ability coming after customer validation ?
A: Can connect to BI platform

Let me get this straight…
1) Lumira Edge/Team Server is NOT part of BI Suite Licensing? (I read that in some webinar recap this weekend)
2) The version of Lumira for BI Platform without HANA only acts as a repository for the Lumira Content and rights management, but users must still use Lumira Desktop to view/download the content?
I hope I’m wrong one of of these 2 counts, but it sounds like BI Suite customers today without buying separately licensed Edge/Team server still don’t have what they need to view Lumira content from a browser without HANAXS h/w investment (or Lumira Cloud)?
Hi Mike – I recommend creating a new thread with these questions because I wouldn’t want to comment on licensing (first question) and on the second, I don’t want to comment on a product I haven’t seen yet.
Thank you for reading
Tammy,
This Note makes it sound like it IS BI-Suite licensed:

Which means the ASUG recap here (SAP Lumira Server for Teams Roadmap ASUG Webcast) I ether misunderstood this Q&A or it’s confusing:
I’ll ask the SAP speaker on this webcast to clarify
This was a great webcast – very clear and informative. Thanks!
