Hello All,

It's been a long time since my last post here, I didn't have too much time to elaborate a new post. Anyway, today I could find some time to show something.

Today I would like to show step-by-step how to perform the upgrade of the Introscope Enterprise Manager from release 9.1.5 to the release 9.5. The steps shown in this post have been performed in a Windows Server and the SAP Solution Manager is 7.10 SP12 (LM-SERVICE 7.10 SP12 Patch 2).

Firstly, before perform the Introscope Enterprise Manager upgrade, refer to note 2071100 and ensure that your Solution Manager has the required release/support package to support the EM 9.5. In case of the Solman has an older release/support package, it will be required to perform the update of the Solution Manager before upgrade the EM. The note 2071100 also shows the major changes of the EM 9.5 compared with the previous release.

Now, after we confirm that our Solman support the new release of EM, let's do the upgrade. The general upgrade and installation procedure are described in the Introscope Enterprise Manager Setup Guide 9.5 that is available in the following location. Always check this document for the latest upgrade and installation procedure. This post followed described in the document from 'November 2014'.

- SAP Components

- SAP Solution Manager

- SAP Solution Manager 7.10

- Additional Guides - Introscope

Also, the general upgrade procedure is described in the Introscope EM Upgrade WIKI page. To perform my upgrade, I followed the procedure described in section 'Procedures for Solution Manager 7.1 SP12 and higher' of the Introscope EM Upgrade WIKI. Basically, it is required to uninstall the old EM release and installa a new one. However, it is possible to keep the historical data and customizations by saving some files/folders of the old installation.

Upgrade Steps

1) Download the installation files:

Download the installation EM files that are described in section 'Installing the Introscope Enterprise Manager' of the Introscope Enterprise Manager Setup Guide 9.5 described above. Basically, it is required to download the 'Enterprise Manager Installer File', the External Component Package (osgiPackages) and the SAP Management Modules. The section 'Installing the Introscope Enterprise Manager' shows exactly where these files can be found.

2) Stop the Enterprise Manager service:

To begin the upgrade, it is required to stop the Enterprise Manager that is already installed on the host. For this, there are dedicated steps depending on the Operational System that the EM is running.

  • WINDOWS: When the OS is WINDOWS the EM service can stopped using the 'Windows Services' or the EMCtrl<xx>.bat. The picture below describes the Introscope Enterprise Manager services in the Windows 'services.msc' application:

The complete command when using the EMCtrl<xx>.bat is for example 'EMCtrl64.bat stop'. If your installation is 32 bits, then you need to use the 'EMCtrl32.bat'. Both versions are available in the EM 'bin' folder.

  • UNIX: Use the 'EMCtrl.sh' script to stop the EM in case of the OS is UNIX. The complete command is './EMCtrl.sh stop'. The EMCtrl.sh is also available in the EM 'bin' folder.

3) Keep the Historical Data and customizations.

If you would like to keep the historical and/or any customization created in the Enterprise Manager, then follow the steps described in section 'Copy files from the old EM after an upgrade' of the Introscope EM Upgrade WIKI page. This section shows exactly what files/folders must be kept for the new EM.

REMARK: Do NOT replace the new configuration files with the old copies since you then may loose any newly introduced properties. Instead, copy and paste any customization from your old files.

During my upgrade, I copied the folders 'data', 'trace' and some configuration files to a dedicated 'EM backup'. These files/folders will then be used after the installation of the new EM. The following picture describes my backup files:

4) Uninstall the old EM installation:

If the installation will be performed in the same directory of the old Enterprise Manager, then before start the installation it is required to move/backup the old installation. The 'Uninstallation' process is described in section 'Uninstalling the Enterprise Manager' of Introscope Enterprise Manager Setup Guide 9.5. Always check this guide for the latest procedure

  • WINDOWS:
    1) Remove the Windows Services using the 'EMCtrl32.bat', the complete command is: EMCtrl32.bat unregister

2) Remove the program using the 'Control Panel --> Add or Remove Programs';

3) Remove any remaining files from EM installation folder (<drive>:\usr\sap\ccms\apmintroscope)

  • UNIX:
    1) Remove any remaining files from EM installation folder (<drive>:\usr\sap\ccms\apmintroscope)

5) Install the new Enterprise Manager:

Perform the Enterprise Manager installation as described in the section 'Installing the Introscope Enterprise Manager' of the Introscope Enterprise Manager Setup Guide 9.5. Always check this guide for the latest procedure.

HINT: The Enterprise Manager Installer perform a silent installation, probably you will not see anything when you start it. The way to monitor the installation is by checking the OS process that will be started by the installer. For example, use the Windows Task Manager to check the process:

Verify the installation: When the installer process finishes, check the installation log that will be created. The log file will be available at:

  • \usr\sap\ccms\apmintroscope\install\ (UNIX)
  • <drive>:/usr/sap/ccms/apmintroscope/install/ (WINDOWS)

Install the SAP Management Modules: After the EM installation, do not forget to install the SAP Management Modules, Otherwise the Solution Manager will not be able to communicate with the EM. The Introscope Setup Guide 9.5 shows how to install them.

6) Restore the EM historical data:

After the complete installation and before start the EM, restore the EM historical files as described  in section 'Copy files from the old EM after an upgrade' of the Introscope EM Upgrade WIKI page.

7) Start the EM service:

Start the Enterprise Manager service.

😎 Reload the Enterprise Manager Configuration in the Solution Manager:

Finally after finish the complete Enterprise Manager installation, it is required to reload the Enterprise Manager definition in step Configure CA Introscope of the Basic Configuration (tx SOLMAN_SETUP). The section 'Procedures for Solution Manager 7.1 SP12 and higher' of the Introscope EM Upgrade WIKI page shows how to update his step. Check this WIKI for the latest procedure as it might change after this post.

As I haven't change the EM host and port, the EM is already online in step Configure CA Introscope, however the version number is incorrect:

As described in the Introscope EM Upgrade WIKI page, it is required to Discover the installation again to update the EM configuration:

After discover the EM again, the EM configuration will be updated. For example, the new version will be shown:

THIS IS THE END

I hope you enjoy this post.

You can leave questions below. I will try to answer them as soon as possible.
