Hello Solman Colleagues,

Many of you would be interested to integrate the Web Dispatcher Component into your Solution Manager System for Monitoring.

The following metrics are delivered as part of Web Dispatcher Monitoring.

(a) Web Dispatcher Availability

(b) Web Dispatcher ICM Thread Number

(c) Web Dispatcher ICM Connections

(d) Web Dispatcher ICM Cache Usage

(e) Web Dispatcher Host Availability

You can also customize the metrics to do SSL certification validity check of Web Dispatchers

To integrate any web dispatcher into Solman, Perform the following steps

1. Register the Web Dispatcher Product System in LMDB manually. (There is SLD Data Supplier for Web Dispatcher, but it does not support Product Information, so you need to manually define product system of Web Dispatcher Type).

More information is given in the below link:

http://help.sap.com/saphelp_sm71_sp01/helpdata/en/8a/0cd5da82f643f99a8881710c0f26ce/content.htm

2. Install SMD Agent on Web Dispatcher Host of suitable version

3. Run the Managed System Setup for Web Dispatcher. It is similar to any ABAP Managed System Configuration. The key step is - "Step 4" where you specify SAP Web Dispatcher Parameters - URL, HTTP Port Number, Instance Number.

The steps are given below in brief

Step 1: Assign Product

The product can be set automatically in this step, by clicking “Create Automatically” button. The assigned products are also set for Diagnostic Relevant by clicking “Set Diagnostic-Relevance” button. Creating Logical System Component for Web Dispatcher is optional step as it need not be configured for Early Watcher Alert (EWA).

Step 2: Check pre requisites

This step checks automatically whether all the Solution Manager Prerequisites steps are performed for managed system configuration. You can proceed  with further steps, only if this step is successfully                    performed

Step 3: Assign Diagnostic Agents

In this step, you assign the diagnostic agent from the list of SMD Agents running on Solution Manager. Click on “Find Agent” Button, this will assign the SMD Agent relevant to Web Dispatcher host. The host is matched with corresponding agent automatically.

Step 4: Enter System Parameters

This is the crucial step, as we specify Web Dispatcher parameters which the Solution Manager will pick up for monitoring.

Two important parameters are specified here.

(a) Managed System Load Balancer Host

Specify the web Dispatcher host itself for load balancer. Choose the port according to HTTP or HTTPS protocol.

                     (b) SAP Web Dispatcher Parameters

Specify the web dispatcher URL, HTTP(S) port and instance number of the web dispatcher. This should be known from the web dispatcher host.

Perform “Check URL” to make sure if the load balancer host is reachable or not. If it is reachable it gives the return code as 200, if it is other than 200, take necessary action

Step 5 Enter Landscape Parameters

In this step, we specify only one parameter, the installation path of the web dispatcher on the host. The SMD agent can now refer the entered installation path.

Step 6 Final Configuration

In this step, significant automated steps are carried out. The extractor frameworks of the type “Web Dispatcher” are activated for the web dispatcher

type monitoring object in the Solution Manager. The introscope host adapter step is not required for the web dispatcher monitoring.Hence, it is marked as “Manually Peformed” to make the status look green, but you can ignore this step. All the data collection happens through SMD agent and extracor framework. You can Click on “Display” link in the Documentation Column. This gives the technical details of each of the automation steps.

Step 7 Check configuration

Two sub steps are carried out in this step.

In the “Configuration Check” step, managed system configuration is verified and the root cause scenario is established for the web dispatcher, which will configure Root Cause Analysis (RCA). The “Refresh System

Status” step refreshes the status of systems in your configuration scope. This step can also be performed manually in the landscape browser of the solution manager. Refer the documentation for more details on this.

Step 8 Complete

In this step, you can take the overview of all the steps and it also logs the latest changes made to each of the steps. As additional functionality, you can also export the configuration data into HTML or send it by e-mail (provided email functionality is configured in Solman System).

Technical Template Activation and Metrics Monitored

Once you have successfully completed the configuration, you can apply the technical monitoring template of the type “SAP Web Dispatcher” and start monitoring the web dispatcher.

You can proactively monitor your Web Dispatcher for Memory and Performance issues. You can configure alerts and analyze the continuously occurring      alerts and set the appropriate parameters for Web Dispatcher.

Hope this helps all of you, all the best !

Best Regards,
