Hard to believe it’s 2015 already. Time seems to blur between the years and, much like the best practice of continuous planning, we’re always looking ahead – there’s no wall or finish line in business. That being said, we do need to reflect back from time to time and it’s important to celebrate success. And there’s no better time to do it than the start of a brand new year.

So let’s call out some of the highlights of the SAP enterprise performance management (EPM) portfolio in 2014. It was a big year for SAP’s EPM portfolio and, more importantly, for our customers. The big theme introduced last year was “Simplicity.”

SAP Business Planning and Consolidation 10.1, version for SAP NetWeaver

In June, we saw the general availability (GA) of SAP Business Planning and Consolidation 10.1, version for SAP NetWeaver (BPC 10.1 NW). This brought the BW-Integrated Planning (BW-IP)/Planning Applications Kit (PAK) capabilities into BPC NW for a single BW-based planning platform powered by SAP HANA.

SAP Business Planning and Consolidation 10.1, version for SAP NetWeaver was also uniquely integrated with the SAP Business Suite on SAP HANA to provide integrated financial planning capabilities as part of Simple Finance. Customers running ERP on SAP HANA and BPC 10.1 NW on SAP HANA now have a single real-time platform powering transactional and analytic processes with no data replication required. This is unique in the marketplace and a unique opportunity for customers to simplify both their technical landscapes and planning processes.

SAPPHIRE NOW 2014

Coinciding with the general availability of BPC 10.1 NW was SAPPHIRE NOW 2014, SAP’s premier annual technology conference. We were delighted that a number of EPM customers presented their own stories of success with  SAP solutions for EPM.

Among these were Petrobras and CareFusion, who made main-stage presentations in the line of business Finance Forum. Ascend and Bloomin’ Brands also gave customer presentations. These, and other presentations, are available for viewing on the SAPPHIRE NOW On-Demand website.

SAP Cloud for Planning

Moving from summer to fall, October was a particularly special month. During our second annual SAP Conference for EPM (which was jam packed with customers sharing their stories with other customers), we announced our new public cloud planning and analysis application, SAP Cloud for Planning. The announcement created quite a stir, showcasing a new generation of EPM in the cloud that embeds analytics and collaboration capabilities, has a consumer app-like user experience, and is built natively on a high performance platform (SAP HANA Cloud Platform).

Looking forward into 2015, SAP Cloud for Planning is planned to be released soon. According to the Chinese Zodiac, 2015 is the Year of the Wood Sheep. It’s believed that those born under this sign will have good luck and many opportunities ahead - fitting for the “birth” of SAP Cloud for Planning indeed.

We’ll be communicating more leading up to the big announcement of customer availability, so be sure to follow us on Twitter - #SAPEPM, Facebook and the Analytics blog. As you plan out your year, we hope to see you at upcoming key events including the FP&A Innovation Summit and Financials2015.

Wishing you all a great start to the year and a happy and successful 2015!
