Planning Calendar Calculation Rule detail information
Hello Every one,
I prepared this document to understand the detail information of the calculation rule of Planning Calendar.
- Planning calendar define flexible periods for a period lot-sizing procedure in master production scheduling (MPS) and in Material Requirement planning (MRP).
- System group to gather the entire requirement which fall with in period which mention in planning calendar from a lot.
- Planning calendar depend on the factory calendar, so whenever changes happens in factory calendar, we need to update the planning calendar
Pre-Requisite
- Planning calendar assign to the material in material master MRP view 2.
- Lot size assign In MRP Material master view 1 as PK (Period lot size acc. to plng calendar)
For creation/Change/Display of the planning calendar go to T: code, MD25/MD26/MD27
Create Planning calendar with respect to the Plant
- Planning calendar Calculation Rule
With help of the calculation rule, we can achieve planning calendar requirement.
1. Weeks ( Week Days)
- This calculation rule for create requirement for per week.
- We can create requirement for any day of week, suppose if we select the 1,2,3 in below calculation rule system create requirement for Every week Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday.
- Using this calculation rule you can create the requirement for any day of week.
- Please check below snap shot of Period and calendar
2. Months ( Week Days)
- This calculation rule for create requirement for per Month.
- We can create requirement for any counter week of week day, suppose if we select the 2 as counter week day and select week day as 5 (Friday) system calculated and create requirement for every month second week of Friday.
- Using this calculation rule you can create the requirement for any day of week in particular month.
- Please check below snap shot of Period and calendar
3. Months ( WorkDays)
- This calculation rule for create requirement for per Month workdays .
- Suppose if we select the 1, 5, 10 Working days’ of per month, in that case system create requirement for every month 1st, 5th, and 10th working days. With help of this rule you can create requirement of any day of the month.
- In planning calendar system not count the Non-working day’s as per respective factory calendar.
- Please check below snap shot of Period and calendar
4. Years ( WorkDays)
This calculation rules similar to the above calculation rule Month ( Workdays)
We can define the work Day/Days for year in planning calendar according to factory calendar.
5. Workdays
- This calculation rule for create requirement for work days.
- Suppose if we create the requirement for 10 work days, in that case system create requirement after every10 working days
- We have to mention calculation start date.
- system not count the Non Working days as per Factory calendar changes
6. Weekdays
- This calculation helpful to create the requirement for any week of workdays.
- We create the requirement for every alternate week “2”of Thursday “4”. We can create requirement for any week work days
- We have to mention calculation start date.
- In planning calendar system not count the Non-working day’s as per respective factory calendar.
Planning calendar additional future.
Planning calendar depend on the factory calendar, but in factory calendar some days are mention as non-working days. Suppose on this particular day requirement fall in that case system follow the below rules. Before calculation rule apply we need to select the one of the rules.
1. Do not Displace :
- 04/14/2014, set as Holiday in Factory calendar and suppose period start falls on Same day
- In this case a system not displaced but calculates and creates the demand on Same period date
- Every week Tuesday working days calculation rule use in planning calendar
2. Following Working Day:
- 14/04/2014, set as Holiday in Factory calendar and suppose staring period falls on Same day
- In this case a system select the next working day.
- Here Next working day is 15/04/2014,
- Every week Tuesday working days calculation rule use in planning calendar
3. Previous Working Day:
- 14/04/2014, set as Holiday in Factory calendar and suppose starting period falls on Same day
- In this case a system select the previous working day.
- Here Previous working day is 13/04/2014,
- Every week Tuesday working days calculation rule use in planning calendar
4. No new Period:
- 14/04/2014, set as Holiday in Factory calendar and suppose starting period falls on Same day
- In this case a system not creates any period.
- Every week Tuesday working days calculation rule use in planning calendar
I hope this detail document helpful to every one to understand the Planning calendar Calculation rule.

Diligently prepared & Extremely helpful document on setting up Planning Calendar.
Thanks Umesh for your help.
Very good explanation, one small is there any possibility to consider holidays also planning caleder?
Thanks a lot for this document.
I have a question about the impact of the periods on the generation of purchase orders. I hope you have the answer.
As you said, if we use the option do not displace, it generates a new period on 14/04 even if it's a holiday. But according to my tests, system still don't create Purchase Orders on this holiday.
So if my test is always valid: there is no possible orders on a holiday. Then what is the point on using the option do not displace? Won't it be the same as no new period?
But if it is possible to have orders on a holiday, what are the customizing points or the parameters necessary to make it happen?

Taher.
Hello Umesh Mali,
I have a request and maybe you can help me, is there any possibility to create a calendar with multiple calculation rules? I mean only one calendar with the combination of the 3 rules.
Example:
1 - the first 4 weeks i need "day" rule
2 - the second set would be 8 weeks using week rule
3 - the last 40 weeks using month rule.
Thank you in advance
Regards
André
Hello Andre,
As per my understanding at time you can apply one calculation rule . Some cases we can combine two logic and with in one calculation rule cover the requirement.
I suggest you create 3 different Planning calendar with 3 diff calculation rule logic and according to requirement you can change the planning calendar in Material master.
Regards
Umesh Mali
I love how clean and simple you keep them, but they give me so much inspiration to have calendars for everything! Thanks for sharing! By the way... my printable calendar website: https://www.123calendars.com/
