Pretext

While I was attending the cloud computing conference @ IEEE, my close friend from SAP university alliances introduced me to the Dean@XIME. These connections went strong resulting in an opportunity for me a panel discussion. The first in my life experience! This is a short write-up from me to share on what I learnt in how difficult or easy questions when you are in panel.

Workshop

Started the day with workshop facilitation which is on “methods and tools” for the participants’ to tackle a challenge to build backlogs using “user story mapping” method for an online bookstore application. Each group or participants is given a jigsaw puzzle of epics/activities, user stories, Backlogs. The flow of the event is to get participants get an Overview on Tools & Methods’ its usage via User story map, JIRA, Eclipse with examples. Further the team went on to build backlogs by solving the jigsaw puzzle to the online bookstore. A sample real time data is made plot a Burndown chart for a specific sprint in the same story. Wrap-uped with a demo in system with some sample JIRA projects. The presentation is @ click

Panel

As a core Panel member for agile discussions for the first time, I was little nervous initially as if they were hard questions, but it was nice to see all the panel members were are same page how agile works in reality and open to share their own perspectives and it at the end looked like we all talked the same language. It was surprising we never meet before and still we understood all questions from participants in same direction and filled each other as it was a very well moderated by Dr Bhatta- Dean (Development)- XIME. The other panelists’ included Dr Sarat - Executive Director CDAC; Padma C - Director Sonata Software; Usha S - Agile Practitioner & Evangelist , TESCO & Vijay Krishna Moorthy- Agile COE TCS.

Few striking questions appreciated by participants’ and panelists were: How does customer be made aware of Agile and how to take them along in the journey? What are the challenges does customer face in the migration from existing models to agile practices? How are estimates for fixed projects adjusted for agile projects? Does RFP is valid at all in Agile? What are the influence and share of customer in Scrum along with the service companies? What are the quality parameters in agile projects?
