What’s New in SAP Lumira 1.21 (summary)

Hello Lumira enthusiasts!

Let me first wish you all a very nice and warm holiday season. Thank you for the tremendous amount of support and inspirations you have shown throughout the year.  We want to send you home to your family but want to sneak in one more release of Lumira in your treat bag.  So stay tuned for the release of SAP Lumira 1.21 in the next few days!

In a nutshell, following experiences are what Lumira 1.21 release focused on.

1. Intro.PNG

Here is a highlight of key enhancements.

2. summary.PNG

Samples are a great way to get you started on Lumira immediately.  With the number of recent releases and new features, we have included some new and updated samples with Lumira Desktop.  We have also added more online samples for line of business.

3. samples.PNG

Lumira allows you to build powerful stories and infographics using multiple visualizations.  With Lumira 1.21, it is much easier to explore a visualization that you want to focus on from the story view. Just click on the Explore icon to bring up the visualization to the foreground and perform further analysis. If you are not the author of the story and the story was shared to you with view rights, no biggie. It does not stop you from exploring, soring and ranking differently.  If you want to save the story with these changes applied as the default view and you do not have the edit right, simply make your own copy of the story via ‘Save as’.  Typical use of this exploration feature is aimed for the viewing mode on Lumira Server and Lumira Cloud. But you can experience the same benefit in the Lumira Desktop Compose room in the preview mode.

4. explore.PNG

Expanding from the above, you can also drill down or change filters.  Yes, I said it. You can drill down from the story by going into the Explore mode of the visualization.

5. drill.PNG

We have also updated and added more big data drivers.

6. big data.PNG

With Lumira Desktop 1.21 you can now single sign-on to Microsoft SQL Server 2008.  Please refer to the Lumira Installation Guide as there are some configuration steps required.  With the enablement of Kerberos SSO, we can now easily add SSO to other data sources in the future as incremental updates.

7. SSO.PNG

Lumira 1.21 now supports latest and greatest trusted platforms.  You will note that we have increased the number of HANA revision support.  HANA SP09 support is coming in the next release and we plan to support both SP08 and SP09 at the same time in the future. So some progress made, more on the way!. Please refer to PAM (Product Availability Matrix) for more details. Also please note that there are a couple of changes to installing Lumira Server mainly around the components that Lumira Server deployment depends on. Please consult the Lumira Server installation guide.

The other cool enhancement is that there is now much less set up required to govern Lumira Desktop from CMC starting BI 4.1 SP5.  Whereas in the past you needed the full Lumira add-on set up that also required Lumira Server and HANA, for the purpose of simply governing Lumira Desktop use (eg. end user access to data sources, publishing location, auto updates), you only need BI 4.1 SP5 and Lumira Desktop.  This is our first step towards deployment simplification. More simplification is planned in the next releases.

8. governance.PNG

If you are not familiar with Lumira Desktop governance capability, please check out this great blog from Greg Wcislo,

As usual there are other small enhancements, usability updates and performance improvements.  The best thing about finishing off 1.21 blog is that I get to play with 1.22. We have another release planned early in the new year, and knowing some of the new capabilities on the way, EXCITEMENT GUARANTEED!

Happy Holidays and New Year to you all!

Sharon

      Sharon,

Do you if the v1.21 or next version 1.22 will support export to HTML5, Flash or any other open standard format with stories.

Export to PDF is so far targeted for the next version.  It is in our build already 🙂

      Sharon,

The current PDF save is very static, the dynamics does not retain.  I am comparing the save as PDF (w/ Flash) when done using Dashboards, all dynamics still retains.

      Hi Ajay

It is static but please be more specific about what you mean by dynamics.  What exactly do you want to be able to do and why is it important to do full blown interaction outside of Lumira Server or Lumira Cloud?  I am trying to better understand and make an assessment on how far we go with sharing outside of Lumira.

I have actually collected some feedback as part of another blog on Simple Offline Sharing.  The call for feedback for the purpose of deciding immediate road map priority is now closed but please feel free to take a look at the questions and feedback that includes export to HTML5 option.

      Hi Sharon,

Is there any plans for Lumira reader for offline sharing. This is the most common requirement users asked me.

Also how will be the progress in the SAP BW area. There couple of mandatory features users are asking. Some of them are

      • SSO to SAP BW
      • Building Stories
      • Sharing Capabilites

      Hi, Sharon,

Thank you for the information. By the way - can you please describe the SAP BI button - under which circumstances it appears in the main menu and what is the purpose of this item?

      Thank you.

Ha! Thanks for catching that Donatas - sharp as usual.

I was lazy and took the screenshot from a 1.22 build that I had installed.

As you know, Lumira allows you to share datasets and stories to BI 4 platform and visualize the stories from the BI launch pad via BI add-on that requires Lumira Server.

In 1.22 you can publish the lums file itself to BI 4 for the purpose of maintaining in the CMS repository and securely sharing the whole document. This workflow can be done directly to BI 4 without the need of Lumra Server/HANA, Lumra add-on, but in order to view the content of the lums file, you need Lumira Desktop.  When you click on the Lumra document from BI launch pad, t will try to load in Lumra Desktop.  Hope this makes sense. Please let me know if this is not clear.

      Thank you.

      Hi, Sharon,

Thank you so much for your feedback. That's a very nice and welcome feature and I am very glad that we will get it so soon - in the next SAP Lumira Desktop version. Now the next step I assume - to integrate SAP Lumira Edge with SAP BusinessObjects BI for viewing and creating purposes via BI Launch Pad 😉 .

Keep up the good work and have a nice Holidays 🙂 .

      Best regards,

      Hi Sharon,

Cool stuff for publishing Lumoira docs onto BI 4.1 platform more simply, without having a SAP Lumira Server connected !

One question : IN SAP LUMIRA 1.21, I do not see anymore the "SAP BI 4.1 Universe" connection available after upgrading from 1.20.

My 90 days trial license key is valid and I have the full version.

Is this feature not supported anymore in SAP Lumira ?

      Regards,

      Pierre

I upgraded to 1.21 and since then, I dont have 'schedule' option visible.  Also, there is an error log created in "C:\Users\<$USER>\.sapvi\configuration".

Restarted, enabled/disabled agent but no result :-(.

      Hi Sharon,

Are there plans for adding support for connecting LUMIRA to UNX universes which are based on OLAP sources?

I have quite important UNX universe bases on Microsoft Analysis Services cube.

I'm able to run WEBI reports on top of it, but Lumira does not see it at all.

      Best Regards,
